Spent more than half a day here. Lots of animals to come close with. Asahiyama Zoo built many of the enclosures with interesting windows and tunnels so you can view the animals up close.

When I read reviews that Asahiyama Zoo is better than the one we have at home which I rated as one of the best after visiting many zoos in different countries, I put this zoo as a must-visit attraction. Indeed Asahiyama Zoo is worth a...More

I traveled to there in Winter, everywhere is just so beautiful. I love the Polar Bear and Penguins walking the most!!!! the food there is just ok, but the environment is the best. There are some days in Winter having the snow lights nights. Lovely!!

Had enough but not too many animals— which may seem like an odd thing to comment on but this was actually such a great aspect of this zoo as we felt there was zero burden of trying to take the kids around to see everything....More

Nice and well maintained zoo! Love the polar bears so much. But noticed that one of the bears has been acting strangely with the same walking actions back and forth. Suspect the bear could be under stress. One down side is that the souvenir shop...More

The zoo is well kept, clean and the animal's habitat are within decent walking distance. The staff were polite, sufficient parking space. Although some animals such as Lion is not available, they do put up notice of information. There are penguin, bear, seal, tiger, monkey...More

Quite a nice day to spend at when you are at Asahikawa area. Nothing too fancy about this zoo but the sight of handwritten signs information boards introducing the various animals brings visitors feel closer to the zoo. For those who likes to collect stamps...More

Zoo was located not far from town. Parking was very convenient and well serviced with pleasant staff. Great to see both car park and zoo employing senior citizens. Zoo highlight was the aquarium where you can see the fishes, polar bears and seals swimming inches...More

Spent an enjoyable morning in the 14degree C weather. Think the monkeys were the most hype animals, swinging and calling out for each other. The polar bear station is also not to be missed. I felt sad for the golden retriever that is kept as...More

We were at the zoo in Dec 17. There is a schedule for the penguin parade, so be sure to check it before heading over so as not to miss it. The parade was very organised. To ensure that most people could see, the staff...More

Hi! I would like to hear some advice from you regarding the accommodation and transportation at Asahiyama. I’m planning to travel from Club Med Sahoro to Asahiyama Zoo and stay overnight at this place. Then next day I will need to travel back to Chitose Airport and may spend the night at the terminal hotel before catching the next day early flight. I would like to hear from you for any recommendation of accommodation nearby Asahiyama Zoo, where transportation is available/provided? Besides, is there any luggage storage area when I’m visiting the zoo as I will be travelling directly from club med, with two kids. I need a place for storage before I can check in to the accommodation after the zoo visit. Then, what is the available transportation from this place back to Sahoro or the airport? Anything that I can do either at Sahoro or Asahiyama before back to the terminal hotel? Recommendation and advice are really appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Yes, you should be able to watch the penguins walking at the Penguin House. However, they become most active during their feeding time, which changes time to time. According to the schedule as of Dec 10, their feeding time... More
