Easily accessible with a lot of steps to get to the top, but the view gives you the best feeling. If you look in the horizon you can see the top of the building of the Monastery hiding behind the mountains. This is when i realized how big this ancient site is!

The Royal Tombs could be easily seen from the main path, so many people, being overwhelmed with Petra (as we were), tend to just keep moving on without climbing up to see the Tombs close. If time allowed, I'd suggest to do so. Unlike some Petra attractions, this "deviation" is not that technically difficult,

I admire the royal tombs in Petra - carved huge buildings in the rocks, resistant to weather and wind. The beauty of the stone is even better seen inside the royal tomb. Surprising is the perfect acoustics inside.

If you walk along the Colonnaded Street, you can see the Royal Tombs carved into the rock. Since they are not on the main Petra route, but another way must be taken uphill, most visitors skip these tombs. Because they were carved into the mountain, they have stood the test of time, unlike the temples, stores and monuments of the city, and therefore give the impression that Petra is just a burial place. Certainly worth a visit if you have the time. From there you will also have a spectacular view of the centre of Petra.

The Royal Tombs consist of four spectacular tombs adjacent to each other along the main path in the middle of the city. The Royal tombs are all distinctive and are combined with Nabatean and Classical architectural styles. Precise functions are unclear, but probably included funerary rites and banqueting.

This attraction caught my attention as I was walking back from the Monastery to the Treasury. It is located on the left side of the street, very easy to see that it was a building carved in the boulders.
Took several pictures here and learned from reviews here in Trip Advisor that they are the Royal Tombs.

The Royal Tombs is the name given to the resting place of Nabatean Royalty. The four tombs face the main path of the center of the city of Petra. Some of the tombs are quite grandiose. The tombs are remarkable for the swirls of color in the living rock. The tombs are certainly worth exploring, if only to compare the Nabatean and classical architectural styles.

We had a perfect weather and the visit was amazing. After walk (appx 4 Km) and lunch we decided to opt out of The Monastery hike and instead took a path to Winged Lion Temple, Bysantine Church and via small hanging bridge reached the Royal Tombs which are thought to be the final resting place of Nabatean royalty. The first that we visited was the Palace Tomb - a three-story imitation of a Roman palace and one of the largest monuments in Petra. Next to it was the Corinthian Tomb - a replica of Nero’s Golden Palace in Rome. And the last on our way was impressive Urn Tomb and where you can see spectacular painting on its ceiling. This is a fantastic spot for watching sunset.
All along the way there are several stalls and you will be asked to buy something but firm NO should suffice.
Note : Be careful as the ground is uneven and rocky with no safety railings.

The Royal Tombs were one of our favorite parts of our visit to Petra. There's a short path to climb up to get near them, and then you can appreciate them up close as well as take the time to go inside. We liked how close they were together so we could compare them and their styles. It took us about half an hour to climb up and explore the area, and take lots of pictures. We also enjoyed the views looking out from the Tombs area back down over the rest of Petra.

Visiting the site is absolutely unmissable during the day, even in the middle of August and with temperatures well above 30 degrees. It is breathtakingly beautiful. However, given how it is organised, a visit to Petra by night is absolutely to be avoided, as you will most likely find "a crazy piece of shit".
