This stupa is located just above the Irrawaddy River that flows from the Nepal area. This is just beautiful and everything in the archeological area just knocked me over!!! What a place...what memories!!!!

Lawkananda Pagoda is a Buddhist zedi located in Bagan, Burma. It was erected on the bank of the Ayeyarwaddy River, and built during the reign of King Anawrahta. It contains a replica of a Buddha tooth relic.

Technically, this is a stupa not a pagoda, because you can't enter it--it is a kind of "tomb." But it is the largest and richest, and most spectacular vision of gold I have seen anywhere in Southeast Asia

This is a very local place to visit, lots of people worshipping here, specially on buddhist holidays. There is also a local market/stalls outside the temple and a fish pond on the other side of the sandy street. The view from the pagoda is really...More
