Bu means pumpkin and refers to the shape of the cone-like top of the structure on the Irrawaddy river bank. Perhaps the temple is less appealing, but the location is really nice. What you see is a reconstruction of a 3rd century pagoda that was...More

Buphaya is a very old pagoda. From a historical perspective Buphaya Paya is a paradigm of the initial pagodas built in Bagan. The pagoda has gentle swelling sides and tapering spires. It is small. It does not look old at all. It has been restored....More

This is one of the smaller temple in Old Bagan, but worth visiting because it is located beside Irrawaddy River which allow visitors to enjoy riverside scenery other than temple visiting. A short visit of less than 20 mins should be good enough.

This is on the river. From here you can rent a boat to tour the river. You have to bargain, but everyone expects you to do so.

This rather small pagoda, compared to bigger ones around, is set by the Irrawadi bank. We saw it while taking the sunset cruise. Great pics from the river. Our tour guide informed us this is the oldest pagoda in Bagan dating back to 10c.

After a day of viewing the temples in Bagan, we went to the Bupaya to see the sunset over the Irrawaddy River (as did many other people — it was quite crowded). There really isn’t much to see at the Bupaya, a golden bulbous pagoda,...More
