The Shwezigon pagoda is, I think, the only pagoda in Bagan fully covered with gold blocks and painted in shiny gold. All others are in red brick or in sandstone and therefore look older, although the Shwezigon is also from the 11-12 c. It's very...More

We are attracted by the stone lions statues outside of this Shwezigion Paya, thus we decided to go in and take a look. This temple design is a bit like That Luang temple in Laos, people are allowed to walk one round of this gilded...More

One of the busiest sites in Bagan, it is a must see. The pagoda shimmers and has many visitors due to its religious significance. The courtyards and carvings are very impressive. We were fortunate to see it early in the day when it was quiter

This is a huge gilded Pagoda built in the 11th century. It is believed to enclose bone and tooth relics of a Buddha. In the South West corner is the shrine of the 37 Mahagiri Nats (Spirits).

Pagoda looks very similar to all pagodas in Bahan. There was no water near it even though cover picture suggests so. As all the pagodas, it is surrounded by local sellers trying to persuade you to buy at least something. If you have been here...More

This Pagoda is a must see built in the 1100s from sandstone which was quarry about 20 kilometers away and according to the writings there was a human chain passing each brick by hand . Obviously now painted and coated in gold it looks spectacular.

Recently redecorated with gold paint on lower sections and many kilos of goldleaf on the main stupa, this is probably the most spectacular of the Bagan temples. It can be crowded, but with a guide you can safely navigate the large number of hawkers
