It was excellent experience! Thank you guys! We were surfing with my husband and 5 y.o. son, making barbecue on the beach, feeding giraffes. Now we love Africa so much!

Thank you for amazing experience, I fell in love with South Africa and surfing! I had the time of my life while exploring the country and conquering waves under Marshal's and Daniel's supervision.

We had a really good time learning to surf with Andries, can't wait to get back on the board! Mossel bay is a fabulous place to learn how to surf, the waves are small but not too small and it is a totally sandy beach to no worries about sharp rocks. Would highly recommend this company.

On our tour along the garden route we decided to take some surf lessions and therefor contacted Hermann. There're a few people who offer surf lessons in that area but we decided for Hermann because the contact via mail already was really friendly and personal. And it turned out to be the best choice.
We met a parking lot directly at the beach in Buffels Bay. At first we had some theory, which took at the most 30 minutes. Sounds short but Hermann explained the most important things and then we went in the water. In the water he explained everything else on concrete situations and examples. Even though we were all on a beginner level Hermann managed it to teach us so well that everyone stood on the board somehow. It was a lot of fun for us and we enjoyed it so much. Hermann was really patient and spread a great mood. The time went super fast.
We took another lesson the next day and we would've loved to take many more lessons if we would've had the time for that.
We highly recommend Unravel Surf Travel for surf lessons. Not just because you get really good lessons. You also get to know really great people. Hermann and his wife Jenya, who also spend the time with us and took some GoPro-photos, are really sweet. They do what they love and that's what you can feel when you're with them.
We were really impressed that they also make some time to teach kids from townships how to surf, to get them out of their usual surrounding and onto the boards. The Surfer Kids Non-Profit is great thing!
We hope that we get back to South Africa soon, so that we can experience the Unravel Surf Travel Tour with Hermann and Jenya! :)

I was a complete beginner and assumed I'd probably never get up on the board. In two super-well-priced lessons Hermann made it seem so easy. He gets an immediate feel for your capabilities and picks just the right waves, but doesn't assume you won't get it just because you're a beginner -- he challenges you. I fell in love with the feeling and am planning my next surf trip! Super recommended -- one of my best vacation experiences anywhere.

Such an incredible surf trip! Local and mostly organic food, yoga, amazing site seeing, great loving people, surfing and paddle boarding, beautiful accommodations and a fun loving community environment. Unravel Surf Travel is the perfect opportunity to experience the beauty of the Southern Cape with locals who know the area best. The surf instructor is fantastic and I still keep in touch with the friends I made. Can't wait until I can go again and bring more people along! Hermann and Jenya are most wonderful guides and I can't thank them enough for putting together such an amazing holiday experience!

Had an amazing time with these guys! Sunrise yoga, incredible outdoor activities, staying right on the beach and best of all, getting coached how to stand up on a wave in no time at all.
The surfer kids non profit is also an incredible part of this program and makes one feel like you are part of something very meaningful, not only for yourself.

Did some research before I travelled the garden route coastline as I was paranoid about being shark bait and wanted to get good equipment as I could nt bring my own board and suit. Really lucky I found Unravel Surf Lessons.
Before I met Hermann we exchanged a number of mails about types breaks that I wanted to surf and made a solid a plan before I got to SA which gave me a good insight on breaks/ beaches (Vic Bay, Wilderness, Buffels Bay, Brentons on Sea, J Bay breaks) along the Gardens route coast.
Surf
I am an intermediate goofy surfer, so I was interested in surfing nothing too crazy (super tubes - JBay) but good beach and reef (flat) lefts. I booked a two days surf guide. Hermann brought me to Buffels Bays which has two left beach breaks, reef (right) and a point break. My luck was in on day 1 as the waves, wind and swell were perfect, but Hermann help my luck by picking the ride tide time to paddle out. The swell was not massive so Hermann came out with me in flippers and gave me constant directions/ tips/ on selecting waves. Caught a ridiculous amount of waves but very lucky with near perfect conditions. Day 2 was not so lucky, surfed Buffels again the swell increased by 1 1/2 times, so power was on but the nice easy left was not working, so we paddle to a different section of the beach. Hermann gave me great tips on the rip and the line up to take to catch a couple of waves.
Equipment
Hermann had a selection of two different boards (8ft 2, 9ft) both in great conditions when we met and a couple of different wet suits to try on. Boards waxed up ready to go.
Ultimately had two great days surfing, good conservation about SA and got some good recommendations on local restaurants.
If you want hassle free, safe and great surf in SA get in touch with Hermann.
