A gracious old building!

I had made prior arrangements to view the interior of the Klipkerk, and just as well, as the street entrance was gated and padlocked - the only access was around the back of the building. I have visited many of the churches designed by Carl Otto Hager and this one is sadly, not in his typical style. It is however, still Neo-Gothic in character - his fellow architect, a WB Hayes, collaborated with him on this project. The elaborate bell tower is the talking point of this building, as the original bell tower had to be replaced as the weight of the bell caused cracks to occur in the structure!
The interior no longer has the specially imported pulpit that was very impressive as the building is now used for social functions and the bigger church alongside the Klipkerk is better able to house all the congregation. The beautiful exposed roof trusses are still there to be admired.
The exterior dressed sandstone has weathered well over time and is a worthy testament to the skill of the Cornish stonemasons who built it.
