The Center does really great work! My mom really loved penguins so I knew we had to stop here. The website says they have tours twice a day and I emailed to confirm for the afternoon tour. I wasn't getting a response on email, so I tracked down some Whatsapp numbers to message on and was successful to confirm the tour! However, when we arrived they weren't expecting us so we had missed the feeding time. We arranged it about 10 days ahead of time, so I would suggest maybe only 1-2 days ahead instead if you are planning on going. They suggested we come back the next morning to see them being fed, but we didn't have the time available unfortunately. They are next to a dog kennel, so there was a lot of loud barking, as a heads up if anyone is bothered by that. We bought some things from their gift shop as a donation, which was a nice touch to have.

What a lovely place with the cutest penguins. We got to know Hiccup, Sandy and Mambo and all the other little rescues. The team of carers truly love what they do. Please support this wonderful cause and learn more about penguins.

I did not take photos because it was lovely to just immerse ourselves in the joy of the experience.

A small facility, however, the small group meant that you could get up close with the penguins and learn a lot. Watching the feeding was great and learning about the rehabilitation was interesting. Great staff

A visit to this sanctuary is a must when visiting Mossel Bay - its a bit off the beaten track as its on the road out to MossGas, but even without a GPS, we found it without any problem!
The work done here is quite humbling to see and what is heart warming is that Carol knows each bird by name and they all have unique personalities and idiosyncrasies!
Many of the injured birds unfortunately won't be able to be released back into the wild, as that is the best case scenario for all the birds that end up here, but there are permanent "residents" whose quality of life is pretty good. Each bird is carefully monitored and assessed and breeding in captivity is happening. It is essential to phone to make a booking before visiting ... going at feeding time is possibly best! As no goverment funding is available for this outreach, reliance on public generosity is key for the continued successful functioning of this wonderful facility.

Had a great time here, they do amazing work for our cute feathered friends. A little gem.
Don't expect mainstream tourism with cafes and penguins behind glass. This is a personalised experience with people passionate about rehabilitating penguins. You need to call beforehand to arrange a viewing.

Please donate to help this keep going!!

The owner, Carol gave us a personal tour which was one of the best experiences we’ve had.
First she gave us an intro into how the sanctuary works, common injures of animals they rescue and their treatment, everyday care of penguins and many other details we didn’t know before.
Then we saw each penguin and learnt their stories, saw them swimming, running around, and being fed.
It was so nice to see how deeply Carol loves and takes care of them, and a bond that penguins have with her.
Thank you for this wonderful experience Carol and your amazing work. Wish you and all little guys all the best!

We visited the centre in January this year and were very impressed with Carol and her team. She was very informative and apart from the obvious work of feeding and caring for the penguins one can see that there is also a genuine love for these endearing little creatures.
If you are in Mossel Bay I would recommend spending an hour of your time at SAPREC.
