Worth a visit. Beautiful restored building and interesting architecture. A stunning art collection, exhibited well in terms of space and lighting.

A small gallery but wow the art is certainly worth it. The building itself with the exotic ceiling is an art firm itself. After visiting the Jan Rupert Centre, that was the appetizer, we could not wait to see the Hester Rupert Art Museum. It did not disappoint. Usually when I go to a gallery it is very rare for me to find an art piece I can connect with. I was shocked to find that I could connect with most pieces here. That is how powerful the art is. I was so happy that my kids also enjoyed it. A lot of oohing and aahing....

Our mother-in-law recommended we go here. I know the beauty of art is in the eye of the beholder. I didn't enjoy what was on show and left after 10 minutes.

A beautiful old building with an interesting history which has been immaculately restored and houses an excellent collection of art by SA artists. Well worth a visit even by non-art gallery aficionados like me.

Strange to see this random collection of artists that I knew in the 60's. Charming reception and good information available. Worth popping in.

This is an interesting collection of work produced by South African artists and is housed in a charming building which used to be a Dutch Reformed church. It fell into disuse and was due to be demolished but the industrialist Anton Rupert was instrumental in saving the building and had it restored to its former glory.
The cruciform groundplan has been retained, as has the magnificent wooden lecturn. Its a good space for a gallery - far better than the intended garage which was planned to be erected here!
S.African artists at the time were asked to donate some of their work to build up the collection - by no means is it fully representative of art in general from the 60's onwards, but it is fascinating to view, none the less. Some of my favourites are there - Boonzaaier, Zakkie Eloff and Hugo Naude.
There is a nominal entry charge of R10 per person - nothing really as the upkeep of such a place must be quite costly! It really is well worth a visit!

Discovered this serious, striking, important collection of 20th century South African art, almost by chance. The experience is worth so much more than the R10 entrance fee!

The gallery is a beautifully restored historic building with a collection of South African artists work that is quite unique. The story of the gallery and collection is an inspiration and make it a worthwhile visit if you have a few moments to spare in Graaf Reinett.
