Obviously, the Okavango River is responsible for creating the Okavango Delta. But the river itself is worthy of special attention because of all of the animals it draws during the dry season. We were there in late May, at the end of the dry season before the rains came and surprising, the river really the only place where one sees water...the delta is completely dry (especially this past year). So regardless of season, the Okavango River does not disappoint with all of the animals that it draws as well as its own natural beauty.

Amazing from the moment we stepped into the dug out canoes. Scenery, the experience, the animals we saw and the location we were taken to for our camping adventure. Thank-you Sunway Tours, you are amazing.

Very tranquil and uncrowded. Excellent for birds especially if you have a good guide. Go in a mokoro or small boat and in a small party so that the wildlife is not disturbed.

The Okavango river is the main water supplier for the whole delta. Due the lack of the usual amount of rainfall during the last 2 rain seasons the amount of water is low so the wildlife is much more concentrated around the river banks then usual. Mokoro safari's are departing from much further way's in the delta as they are used to, so be aware of long drive distances to get there unless you are already staying in the neighbourhood.

Gorgeous region and loads to watch. A British Summer visit has the advantage of being Botswanan winter so not too many biting insects on the river though worth covering up anyway. If you can get out on the water, this is stunning.
