Incredible View
Dec 2019 • Family
Located just north of Tahai, Hanga Kioe offers an incredible view of the sea and the rocks. One will find a platform with a single Moai. Not very crowded and certainly worth considering.

Peaceful Moai
Sep 2018 • Solo
I enjoyed visiting this single moai statue during my visit to Easter Island because of how quiet and peaceful it is. I was typically there by myself or maybe one other person. I visited several times since it's not part of the park pass so you can go as often as you want. It was also close to my lodge.

Bay of Mouse
Oct 2018 • Couples
Named after a legend about a mouse, this site is just north of Tahai. There are two restored ahu, one with a complete moai and the other with a piece that was rescued from the bay. There are also remains of the ceremonial center. It’s said that the kings (Ariki) temporarily lived in this area. Even though it’s close to Tahai, Hanga Kioe is quiet and feels a little off the beaten track. Visit the museum, Tahai, and then take a short walk here to enjoy the coastal view. Combine with lunch or dinner at my fave restaurant, Te Moai Sunset.

A short stop
Oct 2018 • Couples
This is a less frequented archeological site, located near Hanga Roa, between Ahu Tahai and Ana Kakenga. There is a well-preserved moai, which is a nice photo motif with the sea in the background. The other moai has only a part of the back preserved. When we visited, there was a group of horses just beside the moais. A nice place for a short stop, but there are certainly more interesting archeological sites.

Could be skipped
Nov 2017 • Couples
Hanga Kio'e is a small site along the West cost and close to Hanga Roa, which should make it a good place for sunset pictures, but due to the few standing Moai, and lack of other significant structures, makes this a “could easily be skipped” location in my opinion.

Most Wonderful Stay Ever East of Eden.
Nov 2016 • Solo
Easter Island is the most wonderful of places. You fell back in the early 20th Century experiencing the native Islander's simple life & happy ways but still luxury can be found in surprising places. There are many Hotels & tent areas around Hanga Roa & main Harbour area. The Restaurant La Kaleta is absolutely fantastic. So are many others. Very rustic décor.....timber and corrugated roofs. Almost flotsam & jetsam building style. Simple furniture but the food quality from the 21st Century Kitchen is to die for. Well O.K. the pollo (chicken) was a little tough & the Garlic prawns were a little hard but swimming in amazing sauces and they are fresh locally supplied ingredients. The locally made beers are so good. Everything is reasonably priced too.
However the VIEW is as close to Perfect as you can get. 180 degree views of the Pacific Ocean waves sweeping in over volcanic rocks almost up to you table. All the Native Rapa Nui sights are amazing too. Good quality vans, buses, guides and drives go everywhere to see the awe inspiring Moai statures and to the Birdman history. You can scuba diving in pristine waters and in great weather. Yes it did rain quite heavy 2 nights and one morning but a 3 - 4 day visit you will see everything. Sunsets, sunrises, moonsets & moon rises are out of this World....well.. no... it is on this World. It's Isolated and a long 5 hour flight to & from Santiago, Chile, but the new Latam 787 jets are so comfortable and entertainment onboard is1st class. Get yourselves to Easter Island and enjoy the slow restful life and the exciting amazing ATTRACTIONS & incredible HISTORY.

A perfect little diamond to discover
Apr 2015 • Solo
I traveled to Easter Island back in 2005. The Place was magical, the scenery, it was Surreal to see and experience the Moai satues, and to just be here.

I'd been longing to do this trip a long time, and when I finally got here, I was not disapointed. The whole stay felt spiritual to me., one of my best trips ever.

Hanga Roa is the name of the small, peaceful and quiet Little Town on the Island. It was nice just to have a stroll around it.

I spent 4 Days, on this small remote Island, and Believe me, that is enough. The first two days are exciting, the third day you start to feel a bit restless, and on the fourht daym you will start to wonder what to do here.

I rented a 4-wheeler and drove around. Which was the easiest and best way to do it in my opinion if you are travelling with adults only.

I also visited a Beautiful Playa Anakena beach which is a must for one day of your visit. As for Scuba diving, it was nothing spectacular, but it was fun to have done it there.

As for prices, be aware that this is very remote Island, meaning they have to import verything, making things costly. This means even the budget things are costly. If you come here to save Money, forget about it. Still, if you are wise with Money you won't go bankrupt either.

Of all places I've been to around the World, this is up on my top two list (with the other one being Machu Picchu).

Easter Island is part of Chile
Feb 2016 • Friends
M603 / Part of World Cruise - Queen Mary 2. Remember your primary school geography class, or Erich von Daniken's "Chariots of the Gods" that referenced a strange place called Easter Island. What was not apparent then is that Easter Island is part of Chile, a spec 165SqKm in the ocean 3660Km west of South America in the Pacific Ocean. The iconic Moai statues are instantly recognised the world over.
We cruised along the southern shore and did not anchor, with binoculars we could see the statues and the dormant volcanic landscape. Awe inspiring scenery, great tall cliffs dropping straight into the sea, cinder cones of extinct volcanoes, large open paddocks, and small wooded tree areas, and several albatrosses that flew alongside the ship. Truly a memorable day, and a destination that would suggest a landing on the Island to explore these wonders up close.
