Lake in a volcanic crater near the ocean is beautiful. The lake plant life has recently yielded some cancer fighting properties I was told by my tour guide. Some ruins in the area, old dwellings are interesting. The visitor centre has a lot of interesting...More

Rano Kau is an amazing crater. There is a point where you can view the crater and across the Hanga Roa town, without needing your National Park ticket. You can also view the crater from within the Orongo village, which you need your National Park...More

A nice crater visible from inside as well as from outside of Orongo zone of the Rapa Nui national park. There is a rich biodiversity of flora on the ground, make sure you do not enter the actual crater. The locals used to use if...More

This water-filled volcano crater is an unusual sight. As well, you have views of the entire island, which is amazing. Worth the hike or drive!

This is the largest volcano on the island and it fills up with the natural rainwater. Only the RapaNui are allowed to swim in it. The views are stunning from various points around the volcano. It's very windy there so be prepared for that situation.

The volcano is close to the ceremonial town of Orongo, associated with the Birdman cult. You can look down into the volcano, the second oldest on the island. It is within Rapa Nui National Park and fairly close to Mataveri Airport. The Pacific Ocean is...More

Rano Kau is the largest volcano of the island. It is located on the west side, close to Hanga Roa. One can in fact hike up the hill from town. We took a bike trip, which was truly exhausting as it is quite steep, but...More

This beautifully shaped crater is open on one side with views out to the ocean. The water in the crater is filled with grass-like plants. The feeling is a bit like being on top of the world.
