Overview
More
We are an unashamedly old-fashioned shop, based in the historic heart of Lyme Regis, amidst the stimulating company of the other creative and artisan businesses at the restored Town Mill. All our cheesemongers are fully trained and keen to share their experience and knowledge of our cheeses and produce with you. If we don't know the answer, we'll look it up. If we can't look it up, we won't make it up. Our aim is to find out what each of our customers will really enjoy. Self-service we are not! Since we opened in 2009, we've had a lot of positive feedback and received a number of awards - in 2014 we were acclaimed as Cheesemonger of the Year for the UK (Farmshop and Deli Awards), Speciality Retailer/Delicatessen of the Year for the South West (Taste of the West) and Dorset Magazine's Speciality Shop of the Year. Entering such competitions keeps us on our toes - we treat every customer as though they might be the 'mystery shopper'. Although we specialise in West Country cheeses, we sell outstanding examples from elsewhere, as well as biscuits, preserves, chutney and anything else that helps bring out the best from your purchases. We also sell olives, fine local charcuterie, oils and balsamic vinegars, soft drinks, and ice cream from Mendip Moments, who recently won Ice Cream of the Year at the Taste of the West awards. We are a one-stop shop for a delicious picnic for the beach or the gardens. We carry a well-chosen selection of wine and port to go with our cheeses, sparkling wines from the award-winning Furleigh Estate and Langham Wines and a host of other goodies. Our cheeseboards, knives, books on cheese and gift vouchers make great gifts. If you fancy having a go at cheese-making, we're now selling fabulous kits, too...

I, for one, am looking forward to seeing a new (& more customer-friendly) retailer when I next visit Lyme Regis Town Mill. The cheesemonger may have won awards for his cheeses but, in my experience, he was always bottom of the list when it came...More

Justin, the cheesemonger, has decided to retire. Back in July 2015 he annonced to The Mill his intention to retire and to sell his business. He expressed a wish to sell the Town Mill Cheesemonger. The Town Mill indicated that, potentially, a new Cheesemonger would...More

We have been to this cheese monger several times each time we come to lyme. Sadly they are closing on January. Very good line of products, large signs saying please don't handle which is fair enough for fresh products. Maybe not large enough for those...More

Really like this shop, they have a great selection of local and unusual cheeses, including some that I haven't seen anywhere else. The proprietor is very friendly and is obviously very passionate about cheese, he was even able to point us to a couple of...More

The Town Mill Cheesemonger is by the Town Mill complex just off Combe Street (or a short walk from the car park on the main street), and the very authoritative owner will talk you through the cheeses he offers. There are also chutneys, vinegars, and...More

It's basically a shed. It looks bigger on photos than what it actually is to be honest. But wait until you hear this.. I picked up a wrapped piece of smoked cheddar with intent to buy only for it to be taken out of my...More

Every region, for that matter every county, should have at least one of these: a first-rate cheese shop, managed by knowledgeable and enthusiastic people, specialising in local produce -- in this case, from Dorset, Devon, Somerset and Cornwall -- particularly cheese from smaller producers that...More

I'm sorry that you felt my restrictions on handling cheese to be excessive. However, the plentiful signs and earlier polite request not to handle the produce were clearly insufficient for you. We do not wrap our cheese in rigid plastic to enable handling - we...More
