English heritage owned but free to visit, this has a couple of info boards about the lodge for those who are interested. Historically it was owned by the warrener who captured the rabbits for the monks nearby at Thetford priory but now it serves as...More

The ruin is simply a ruin, no restoration or memorabilia. And it's the only thing around the immediate area to see. The location is a good site for a rest stop with rubbish bin just off the main road, or a nice way to enter...More

English Heritage care for many of these buildings, and this one has a really interesting history to it. Originally a hunting lodge, built as long ago as the early 1400's, it was then used as a home for the rabbit farmer, a dying industry if...More

This is where the warrener lived - looking after the rabbit warrens which characterised the area before the forestation. Now the car park is handy for drivers taking their dogs out - as a result the area is smelly and spoiled .

There's a free E.H. Car Park with a walk of 150m over a rough, sandy trail to the rectangular tower, built to protect forest workers 600 years ago. It's almost unbelievable to read that it was inhabited till 1935, when a fire destroyed its roof,...More

It was not that easy to find for some reason but we eventually arrived on a lovely sunny Sunday morning. It is a very pleasant walk on slightly uneven sandy tracks. There were information boards giving a little of the history as you walked round....More
