Great spot, free entry

Great spot to visit when in swords, especially with the walk around the top of the castle walls. Great that's its free and then you can walk in the little park beside it and get a pastry in the bakery on the corner!

Loved it here

Stumbled upon the absolute gem of a place. The gentleman at the tourist office was so friendly. Was there with my husband and 14 year old son and we loved it. Spotlessly clean and the little church is just stunning. It’s free and we’ll worth a visit.

1000 years of architectural history...
Aug 2020
Ruined by an industrial walk way around the internal walls signed off by the Office of Public Works and LCC costing a small fortune of tax payers money(millions) and installed by engineers who got the measurements wrong and is only accessible on half the internal wall.(they fecked up) Brown envelopes no doubt involved ! This is a crying shame and has ruined the appearance and this magnificent Palace where the Bishop of Dublin resided many moons ago. Should be removed , money repaid, metal walk way removed and a wooden structure should be installed in its place...this attempt to marry the old with the new does not work at all!

IT'S DREADFUL!

Swords Castle

Visited today but closed due to Covid 19 so only got into the grounds. The castle dates back to the 13th century. It is a work in progress but has been open to the public since 2015 and admission is FREE. Fingal CC have done a marvellous job here and I will be back when it reopens to get a look inside

Lovely spot

I just went for a wander around one day whilst on a walk. They have done a fabulous job on restoring this and even though it's not finished, it looks great + will be gorgeous when it's done. It's a super community space + looks fabulous as you drive down the main street towards it.

Be careful
Mar 2020 • Solo
If you're going to be visiting the castle try to stick to the entrance and grounds of just the castle. Avoid the park attached to it as you will likely encounter groups of teens out looking to harass you or groups of drunks and some drug addicts. Never go near it once it starts getting even slightly dark. American tourists have gotten robbed and beaten there.

800 Years Old

The Castle was built by Archbishop and use to be his residence. It is very close to the airport and not too far from the city centre. Despite the reconstruction still continues Tower, Chamber and Chapel are open for visitors. Going up and down using the narrow stairs is a great experience. The entry is free.

Beautiful grounds, easy to walk in and get some great pictures.

We were able to walk the grounds within the castle walls as well as outside in the park that is directly next to it. One room in the castle was open and you could take the spiral stairway up into it. Very Cool! What we enjoyed was that this site did not have a very "touristy" feel and wasn't crowded at all.

The heart of Sword

An interesting free glimpse of the past brought to life by the castle and the lovely woman who told us the story of the castle. Make sure to stop at the office inside the castle grounds to get the story.

Such a nice place to visit. The renovation of this castle has taken so long but it has been well worth it.The grounds look fabulous and the chapel is well worth a look.
