Are we there yet may constantly echo through your head (or ears with small children) as you hike towards the river. It is uphill for most of the three-kilometer trail. However, the trial is maintained nicely and the parking lot has free bathrooms. I went...More

We wanted to avoid the group bath blue lagoon and this was a magnificent alternative. We went in the a.m. after a local bakery coffee and croissant trip. A one hour hike and only a few other bathers in the river. Nice hike with great...More

Beautiful but intense hike up the side of a mountain while viewing steam all around. Hot river was gorgeous and felt wonderful. Open dressing areas.

The hike in is 90% uphill for 2.3 miles; it’s a workout. But well worth it! You will see hot muddy springs and hot clear springs along the hike. And sheep too! And the great plus is the Hot River is free. Because you are...More

This is a lovely hike of moderate difficulty. Beautiful, sweeping views dotted with steamy hot springs. Walk by bubbling larger bore holes and their clouds of steam and end at an area set up for bathing in the ‘hot river’. Very nicely set up with...More

Great walking in all seasons through beautiful scenery to be rewarded with a relaxing soak in the natural hot springs. Not to be confused with Hveradalir in central Iceland which is an altogether different experience. Hveragerði is located just off Highway 1, 45 km to...More

Need to see. Like the set for Kubrick's 2001. It is a semi-difficult walk but a great place to catch a rainbow.

Shelling out around $100 for a basic ticket at the Blue Lagoon is terrible! Leave your wallet behind, pack your knapsack and head off for a memorable journey to the warm river in Reykjadalur. The hike is undoubtedly best when the air is crisp and...More

I just hiked to the Hot River in Hverigerdi the evening of July 10 at about 8:30pm. We hiked out at 11:00pm and people were still hiking in! Relaxing in the river was a great way to spend the evening! And it was not very... More

We were there in March. Not sure why they would close the trail up to the springs. I would think the answer is on the internet.
