I've never been on a vulcan crater before so we took the opportunity and it was nice, especially because the weather gets better. After passing Modrudalur desert which was amazing, this looks like the expected stop. Nice views from top - getting on top of...More

The surroundings of this krater are filled with pipes and factory equipment. It could be the perfect location for a Bond movie. It has something mysterious about it. The krater itself has beautiful colors, and the water has a deep blue shine. Lots of steamvents...More

We visited at the end of May and there was a very strong wind making the walk around the crater edge a bit scary at times. Amazing place, with steam vents but still had ice covering most of the lake surface.

Definitely worth a stop if you are in the area. You need to climg a small steep hill to get good views down into the crater. Good views of surrounding landscapre from on top as well.

It is interesting to view the crater lake, on the other hand it was very similar as the one in the South close to the Golden circle. On the top of the crater, we experienced likely the strongest wind in our lives. You could just...More

Used in movie scenes as hell, this is the first time I have seen snow in hell. Leaving that aside, it is a gentle climb up to view the crater, the soothing, glacial blue colour making it all worthwhile. The circumnavigation might take 15 minutes....More

The views are amazing at the top of the rim. It’s a short 5 minute walk up a steep hill, but the effort will be worth it! Enjoy!

Easy access, not a lot of walking even if you are not prepared to walk all around the crater you can see the crater lake with just a bit of walking from the car park.

Drive past the geothermal plant & arrive at the car park - literally the crater edge is 10 steps away. Unfortunately, the weather was blowing a blizzard & the lake was frozen, so couldnt actually see a lot but could see the volcanic crater rim.
