It is about an hour drive from Godafoss. As you get close to the parking, you will pass by sheep farm and you need to unlock and lock the gate to drive through. We visited just after F-road was opened for this season. At the...More

Many people do not go to Aldeyjarfoss because it is a 2h detour. However, because multiple travel blogs list this waterfall as one of their favorites, and because it was good weather (mostly sunny with some fluffy white clouds), we decided to try. It was...More

No hyperbole there -- the entire landscape is to yourself as barely anyone goes there. You can climb all the way down if you want or just admire it from afar. Easily the best waterfall in Iceland -- and I'd debate in the world due...More

It is not too far from Godafoss but is 35 up an unpaved road. When I got there, there was no one and nothing on that desolate windswept rock mesa. The light turquoise colored falls are beautiful but the rock cliffs on the side were...More

This waterfall is a bit off the beaten path but making the trip is worth it. Way less crowds than Godafoss and beautiful view. Hike to the bottom is not long and is worth it.

This is quite the hike from the parking area. Make no mistake every step is worth it. Just be in good shape/health if you are over 50 like we are.

This is one of the most unique and beautiful waterfalls in Iceland. The waterfall is not very tall but it falls into a round shape pool with black basalt columns around it. It is quite different than other typical waterfalls you see in Iceland. It...More

To be clear, Aldeyjarfoss is not as popular as most of the other waterfalls in Iceland because it is off the Ring Road, and to visit it requires driving on F-roads, and so off-roading/hiking to get there, which is likely only open seasonally. But you...More

The Aldeyjarfoss waterfall is located just 3.7km away from where the road 842 ends. Its located on the F26 road which is closed in the winter time. So the waterfall is not accessible in winter by car, but you can hike. Proper clothes and shoes...More

I personally would only go in a 4 x4. It's a very long rough and uneven road. I wouldn't want to risk damaging my personal vehicle or pay for fixing a rental car. Especially if you have to call the rental agency to come... More
