Serene and crystal clear shallow waters that reflect the islets and clouds. Watch out for the midges though. Be sure to bring a head net, since these small nonbiting insects like to crawl up your nose or into your ears.

I camped on the edge or the lake which made for a beautiful sunrise! Some great places to eat nearby but beware, places close early even in summer. Nearby blue lagoon and hot caves make this lake a great central location hub.

This is one of the most beautiful lakes in Iceland and that is saying a lot. Take in a bath while you are there at the geothermal springs. Scenic views are definitely worth stopping for.

Frankly we could not enjoy the lake or the lakes views without being in the car or in a building because of the overwhelming bugs - such an enormous shame. They say hike the lake shores - truly??

This lake is amazingly beautiful. There are several points of interest located around this lake. Make sure you stop and look at every single point of interest and the overlook area above the lake from the highway!

Lake Myvatn is in the northern part of Iceland. You hardly see any cars on the road traveling there. Our tour had warned us to take mosquito nets, use insect repellant and to wear long sleeves. And they were right! The midges attack without warning....More

We enjoyed the drive and walks around the lake. Lots of bird life and little mounds or islands in the lake but the flies or midges were everywhere. They didn’t bite but certainly were annoying.

Beautiful area around Lake Myvatn except for the midges. They're everywhere! We could have used a little breeze. The lake is so clear you can see the bottom. Drove around the lake and lunched in Reykjahlíð. Would recommend you bring bug spray but a definite...More
