After Viti crater you can spend a great half of the day here visiting few interesting places like the Solfataras of Namaskard, Skutustadir and have meal at the famous Vogafjos restaurant - very very delicious and portions really huge. We were not impressed by Dimmuborgir...More

This lake was high on my list of areas to visit while in Iceland. I am an avid birder, so I had heard of the area and how there are so many birds here found nowhere else in Iceland. We saw red-necked phalaropes EVERYWHERE, common...More

Bring lots of bug spray/mosquito repellent(and nets if you want them) because reviews are not kidding when they talk about all the bugs. Despite this, there was a lot of amazing scenery to see, which I will review under those specific attractions. Definitely recommend that...More

An hour from Akureyri, options galore await you at Lake Myvatn, easily filling a day. Even the midges seem secondary [especially if you wear a mosquito netting for your head, wear a long sleeve shirt and put on bug spray]. At Skutuskadagidar, you can see...More

Always bad when hotels provide mosquito netting to cover one’s head. There’s a good reason why Lake Myvatn means “Midge Lake”,and it’s not a pleasant one. Insect repellent keeps the beasties away to allow you to enjoy the many fantastic local volcanic features.

We spent a night here (at the gorgeous Fosshotel) but would’ve loved an extra night. Lots to see and do. The lake is pretty dotted with a lot of incredible and interesting places of interest. Quite a few hotels and shops.

The lake is beautiful and filled with waterfowl including swans. The best time to visit is in the evening but that is also when the gnats are active. Bring some kind of mosquito covering for your head if you get annoyed by insects. There are...More

If there’s one thing Lake Myvatn does more impressively than the views, it’s the flies that live there. In the warmer months the numbers must be in the tens of millions! However, with a head net or just being brave, visiting the area is a...More

We went in June , the season of Flies at Lake Myvatn, so I thought we had to wear the head net thing! But no we didn't, because there were hardly any flies bothering the lagoon area. My husband and I had a great time!...More
