There's plenty to see here, if weather permits. If you're short on time and the weather is even slightly on the bad side, save your time and keep going to other sites in Myvatn or get to Dettifoss. Pro tip: between the ring road and...More

On the drive up there’s the Krafla power station that’s pretty interesting to see, unfortunately they don’t do tours in the winter. At the top of the road there’s the crater.

We found the visit to Krafla unimpressive and left with the feeling that we did not get to see what we were supposed to. Maybe it was getting too dark and there were few cars but we could not find the main trails. We did...More

We parked the car at the station and hiked all the way up the mountain. It was all snow there in September and the strong wind made the hiking harder. But the view was breath taking. Worth it!

Another must-see stop! Walk the crater and then go over to the other side and walk the lava fields at the top of the trail. It's so cool up there because the terrain goes from very colorful to black lava rock (very moon-like). Such a...More

To understand how young Iceland is and how it was created is interesting. To walk the fields and feel you are on "the moon." is quite neat.

A bit of a hike from parking area. Boardwalk is broken and a bit faulty but the view and scenry was amazing! Lots to see. Many hiking trails. Even in the rain it was great.

You should have no trouble driving road 863. The road is surfaced and there are no sharp bends to worry about.

Hi Rotagal, It depents how far you want to enter the fields. From the B roads you can have a good enough impression.
