Super interesting and fascinating to see how steam rises out of the earth. Loved the lava field that goes on as far as the eye can see

This was really cool! Theres a crater near by with insane winds when we went that literally blew us over. The outdoor shower is also fun with hot water but not ideal with the wind. Near by is also the bubbling mud so just drive...More

Very nice, but very windy. The road to get to the site has an incredible Gradient. Be careful if you walk near the crater rim, it's still warm.

It was such a beautiful place to walk around. So much to see and so different from everything else we've seen in Iceland.

If you want to see nature's power at its finest, you have to visit this place. Kraters, sulfer, steam,... Best place in Iceland to watch geothermal activity. Either recent activity or the remenants of old eruptions.

Only a short trip from the main road, driving up past a geothermal power station. Walked round the lava fields with steam rising from holes or cracks the ground in several places. Donb't miss it!

This was amazing experince. It was Mordor-like experience with the black lava sea of several square kilometres that you could see from the top. Really amazing experience, you could feel the disruptive force of the erruptions that happened 30 years ago. Highly recommended, worth 20...More

We were literally there at 7am! No-one around you and the crater and a lot of nothingness. Drive past the power plant to the top. Park and walk up along the rim if you want. Great for photos. Stunning views. Very near the Lake so...More

Krafla was one of our favorite places we visited in our latest trip to Northern Iceland. It is very easy to find and you can drive your rental car right up to the edge of the volcano cone and walk around the rim. The photos...More

The trip there requires a bit of driving from road 1, but is really worth it. On the way you have a possibility to take a shower beside the road, and see a huge power station and after that on the left is a parking...More

You should have no trouble driving road 863. The road is surfaced and there are no sharp bends to worry about.

Hi Rotagal, It depents how far you want to enter the fields. From the B roads you can have a good enough impression.
