Like most of the monasteries in the Meteora there's some climbing to do before even getting to the final series of steps leading to the entry. A small outside elevator can take someone from here to the monastery Be aware that the inside of the...More

The view, the architecture, and the people running it are simply amazing! Definitely worth the detour; especially since big buses cannot access it!

Tiny monastery with a steep climb & many steps. Fabulous frescoes. Tiny chapel area, very moving even to a non-religious person. Also fascinating naive paintings of daily monastic and associated life in the shared recreation area. You can also see a Monk's cell (bedroom) which...More

This has what I thought were the most engaging experiences of the 4 monasteries I visited. The small chapel for the monks has an incredible and new (to me) collection of frescoes. I'm glad there were some postcards since I couldn't take photos, nor remember...More

This monastery is one of several in this incredible area. A must see. Be prepared to do some walking on cobblestone. Absolutely lovely.

This was the first monastery that we visited, and after we have visited 4 out of 6 monasteries in 2 days, we felt this one was the most authentic and beautiful

St Nicholas was beautiful. A little bit of a hike up the mountain, but well worth it. Men, don't wear shorts and women a dress with covered shoulders is a must. At this Monastery long pants (like scrubs) were available for men who were in...More
