Eye candy, pure and simple
May 2021
Exceptional views of the vibrant red rock formations make this an enjoyable drive ... for awhile, anyway (until hitting the Oak Creek shopping center (where Clarks is) and then it is a mighty slow slog for the next hour or so as the traffic schlepps along at an amazingly, exceedingly slow speed ("speed" seems to be an oxymoron here). Sedona's popularity apparently knows no bounds. And so we all plod along. That is the price to be paid for seeking out this treasure which apparently everyone else on planet earth has "discovered."

WOW!
May 2021
By far this is truly the most scenic road we have traveled and we've been driving for over a month from Florida through to Texas and now Arizona. This is a must see for all Americans to see how magnificent our country. truly is.

Take the 179 instead of the 260 for fabulous views
May 2021
If you are traveling to Sedona from Phoenix and want to see fabulous views, then take the 17 to the 179. You will see so many beautiful red rock formations like Bell Rock, Cathedral Rock, and so many more. There are about 8 roundabouts on this route. They can be congested the closer you get to Sedona. The other option is to take the 260 through Cottonwood. You will avoid all of the traffic congestion, but the views are not as spectacular.

Red Rock Scenic Byway....Truly Amazing....
Apr 2021
While driving up to Sedona from Phoenix where we flew into we saw a lot of cactus, hills, a very sparse landscape until we turned off onto Hwy. 179...The Red Rock Scenic Byway...

Once we were on the Byway...the landscape changed dramatically. The mountains turned into beautiful shades of red rock formations that just amaze you with their colors and beauty.

There are ample places to stop, admire and photograph the "Red Rocks"....This is one drive that you do not want to rush when visiting Sedona....A must visit for anyone looking to enjoy a gorgeous landscape.

Pleasant and easy drive
May 2021
This is a nice drive with some easy hikes (and some crowded) along the way. We stopped to hike Bell Rock. We parked across the highway at Yavapai because the main Bell Rock Trailhead was full. It was an easy walk to the trailhead. The beginning of the trail is very clearly marked. If you want to hike higher, it becomes a bit tricker. We hiked a little way up and the views and area was nice. Even though parking was full, it wasn't crowded on the trail.
