About
Red Rock State Park is a 286 acre nature preserve and environmental education center with stunning scenery. Trails throughout the park wind through manzanita and juniper to reach the rich banks of Oak Creek. Green meadows are framed by native vegetation and hills of red rock. The creek meanders through the park, creating a diverse riparian habitat abounding with plants and wildlife. This riparian habitat provides the setting and the opportunity for the park to offer a focus on environmental education. Red Rock offers a variety of special programs for school groups and private groups. There are a number of daily and weekly park events. The park offers a visitors center, classroom, theater, park store, ramada and hiking trails.

Easy hike pays off with magnificent views
Great hiking area for any fitness level. There are several interlocking trails that very in length. We hike the outer loop of all the trails which was about 5.5-miles. We hiked Bunkhouse to Kiva to Eagles Nest to Coyote Ridge to Apache Fire to Javalina to East Gate and back to Bunkhouse. As you can imagine the trail segments are short and you can access the trails for shorter hikes. The only strenuous part of the loop was going up the back side of Eagles Nest but there are plenty of switchbacks with 300-ft of elevation gain. Great vistas of Cathedral Rock, Three Sisters, and many more rock formations. We saw several mule deer on the hike, stopped and ate lunch enjoying the views of the mountain range, and met only a handful of other hikers on the trail. Gates open at 0800.

    The Rangers are so kind!
Me and my friend walked three short trails and saw so much beauty from the rock formations to the river we walked along. The rangers helped identify a lizard I took a photo of and thought me how to recognize it. I appreciated that fully🫶🏼 we also loved all the information that was posted on the trails!

    Amazing views and relaxing walks
All state parks have wonderful views and offer good trials to enjoy with family and your dog if you have one. I did not pay extra fir any of the visits I did to the park. My only watchout is that it gets busy early so it help to stsrt early.

Hiking at Red Rock State Park
We arrived at 10 AM. We listeded to the 2 movies about the history. Then we walked the train next to the Oak Creek, the easy trail. We had hiked the harder trails years ago. We toured the 2 rooms with explanations of the area. We ended with a picnic lunch on the outdoor picnic tables.

Good start to the Loop Road
We had a nice visit and tour with guide Charlotte today. Learned lots about the native plants and the park geological history. The views are terrific, especially if you do the short climb to the House of Apache Fires.

    Mule Deers
Our Nature guide was exceptional. Jan/Jane was so knowledgeable and willing to share all her knowledge (geology, volancic activity, reasont history, botanical plants, and indigeneous history) and gladly answered all the group's questions. The walk/hike was about 2 hrs; bring plenty of water....highly recommend it..We saw two mule deers!

    Lots of Fun
Even with it being on the warm side there are so many trails to visit- different lengths. Also a nice visitors center with interactive displays and a small gift shop. Plenty of room to park in different areas of the park. Some great picnic sites and very friendly staff. If you go try going in one way off the main highway then leaving a different direction. It gives you so many different views and is a nice ride into Sedona.

    So much to do
The fee to get in is minimal. Plenty of parking and so many trails to choose from. The trail by the river is easy and the river sounds so relaxing. If you want to cross the bridge you can venture up on the mountain and have some amazing panoramic views from the top. Be mindful of wildlife, we saw a snake (this is their home, we are just visiting). Hiking shoes recommend it’s dusty. If you don’t want to hike there are plenty of benches and a nice visitor center. We’ve been here a few times in the past and it seems a popular spot for weddings. I can imagine the beautiful scenery makes for awesome pictures and memories!

We did not partake in any of the hiking or "paid tourist activities". We opted to take the loop drive. There were several places to stop and take pictures. We visited on Sunday 12/29/19 so the roads were crowded due to the holidays and the first sunny day in several days. We enjoyed the views nonetheless.

Cathedral was very crowded. We just viewed it from the parking lot. However there are drivers with golf carts to take people to the top.

This is one of the most beautiful parks I have ever visited. Miles of hiking trails for all abilities and at every turn you catch your breath and exclaim “wow” at one amazing view of the Red Rock formations after another! The old house on the park land and it’s history is so interesting as well. I love the bridge crossing Oak Creek at the start of the trails.
Plan on spending at least 4 hours to take it all in. There are picnic tables by the visitor center ( closed now due to Covid-19) if you want to bring a lunch.
Parts of the hiking is shaded others not so much. We went around noon on a rather warm October Day but there were enough shady stops along the trail to keep us comfortable. Bring water. Hiking shoes are better than tennis shoes due to elevation gain and loose gravel. The trails are well marked. There are benches at viewpoints.
A definite must when visiting Sedona.

I researched the website for the Red Rock State Park and noticed the "free" 10am naturalist 2 hour hike. First come, first serve and it was great. There is a $7 per person to enter the park, plenty of parking spots, restroom and an informative area to learn about the animals (bees, wasp, snakes, birds, etc) around the area. We enjoyed reading and learning in the center before our 10am tour. Make sure you are wearing good shoes, not flip flops.

All volunteers at the park with a few official park rangers. It was interesting to learn from the volunteer as we walked along a path to the Oak Creek river and up to the house. Good views of Sedona mountains. The hike was about 2 hours and then we sat in the bird and hummingbird area afterwards. It was great watching the numerous hummingbirds of many sizes and colors drinking from the several feeders. You could hear the whir of their wings as they flew by.

There were several picnic benches available, so we decided to use that for our picnic lunch before we headed out to another hike. Nice to have a restroom available to wash hands and get cleaned up before hiking again.

This review is specific to Red Rock Crossing.

Sedona is, simply put, breathtakingly beautiful, and the wealth of trails is immense.

This location however, is a private enterprise masquerading as a National Park within a National Forest. It is, quite frankly, an imposter, now charging $11.00 admission. Please don’t let yourself be ripped off, park “up” the road, walk in through the regular trails and enjoy the same view without the “franchise” ticket.

Beautiful place Unbelievable hikes and scenery. We rented a home through AirBNB. Expensive but shared with a friend couple. The scene is heavily popular..so be aware slow traffic and somewhat crowded trails. If driving in bring plenty of food it is a bit expensive due to high demand. We also drove to Grand Canyon , Meteor Crater, Petrified Forest and Montezuma Castle. All within a two hour radius of Sedona. All in all a great trip. Just have to be patient it’s a extremely popular place to spend a week. But we’ll worth the views and hiking!!

After a couple strenuous hiking days we needed a “rest day” so checked out this state park on a Tuesday morning. They have a display inside, and we reviewed while waiting for our guided hike at 10am.

They have several hummingbird feeders set up & it was fun watching them zoom in & out. Also, plenty of Javelina scat around

We aren’t in our 30s, but this was an older crowd… like old. It was leisurely and Celeste did a great job. The best part was her telling us about Javelina Cantina and taco Tuesday, where we went at happy hour and had a margarita, 6 tacos and chips & salsa for like $20.

Our Pink Jeep tour guide had recommended the Red Rock Crossing area as his favorite place to hike. Our America the Beautiful Pass did not work here since it is a state park, so it cost $11 to enter. We found the landscape to be different that what we had seen in other areas. We were able to hike along the creek and do some rock stepping over it. Beautiful view of Cathedral Rock. Would have liked to have spent a little more time there, but we were at the late end of a long day of hiking in other places. There was a wedding party that had come down to take photos on the red rock ledge next to the creek... I'm sure the photos will be beautiful. Nice park area to take a picnic.

Well maintained, moderate-easy hiking trails offering amazing panoramic views of red rock spires, buttes, mountains and structures including Cathedral Rock. We hiked 5 miles, including along Oak Creek, and then Eagle’s Nest, Coyote Ridge and Javalina trails. We entered the park on a Sunday around 8:45 and saw less than twenty people the entire time. It cost us $7 per person, so $14 total. There are restrooms, plenty of parking, an educational center and a visitors center. Well worth the minimal cost to have a five mile hike in Sedona with A+ views almost all to ourselves!!

We came to the state park for a picnic lunch and walk afterwards. The picnic area is clean and well taken care of. There are no trash cans because it is a “pack out” park to keep wildlife safe.

In the picnic area there is a path that winds around in a big “circle” to look at the different trees and cactus and labels of the plants. My preschooler loved running around and asking about the different labels.

Since we are still in a pandemic the educational part of the visitor center was closed. However the bathroom and gift shop are open. Those are also clean and well taken care of.

We walked the Bunkhouse trail down to the bridge (Blackhawk and Sentinel Crossings are closed until further notice) and came back because the trail was too hot (73 degrees) for our preschooler and he complained about walking. I think if we went earlier in the day it would have been better.

The views were nice and the river was beautiful. If you are going with young kids make sure to go early in the morning and wear a hat because of the lack of shade at the beginning.

Price is $7 per adult and free for kids under the age of 6.

You cannot see anything from the car. This is a walking park. And, compared to other parks, they way overcharge. Others are $7 per car while this is $7 per person! But, it is very scenic in redrock country, has a nice small museum and an historic old house that once belonged to the CEO of TWA airlines. It is in disrepair and no entrance but they are hoping to restore it. It is on the top of a hill with a great view of the Sedona Valley.
