About
Experience the beauty of the Sonoran Desert through the eyes of Frank Lloyd Wright. We went on a group tour during the Chihully exhibition. The guide was very good, really a model docent. The buildings are as they were when FLW lived there including his art collections and furniture he designed. There are students working in some buildings. It is a beautiful location that should not be missed. The gift shop is irresistible with some really nice things for decent prices.

I am a FLW fan and have been to other sites and I this left me overwhelmingly lacking. I did the self-tour and can't believe shop doesn't carry cheap earbuds (left mine at camp) so I had to hold the phone to my ear. The gal at the shop acted as if I would DARE to think they carry such a cheap item! But it is a great shop! I agree with another review that stated it would be helpful if they noted stops...it was a little hard to follow.
I understand the structure will match the desert, but not a fan of all the concrete. Only get to see four rooms (FLW office; the Garden Room - a meeting room; the drafting room - nothing spectacular there; and the cabaret - another meeting room).
Also agree with ohters to bring a hat and water!
I've been to the Biltmore in Phoenix and found it much more magical than Taliesin. And it's free!

Amazing and beautiful space, great example of Mr Wright’s legacy. I learned a lot about him and organic arquitecture.
We weren’t able to take a self tour since those are available until the evening so we took a guided tour for 90 minutes. It was very informative but extremely long and a good portion of it is outside and we were at 98 degrees today. A couple seniors looked overheated and it was just Where are you too long. After 90 minutes the guide said she wast done but we decided to leave.
I would have preferred a self tour, i hope it was available all day.

What a wonderful peek into Frank Lloyd Wrights life and home! It was MUCH more interesting and enlightening than I thought it would be. I am amazed at his talent and foresight in architecture. The tour was excellent with much historical information as well as design details. Loved it!

What an incredible place. The architecture is just on a level that only Frank Lloyd Wright could do. A must visit when in Phenix....Ayelet the host is amazing!

I am a Frank Lloyd Wright fan, but that is not a requirement to appreciate Taliesin West, in my opinion. Purchase your tickets online in advance. We choose the self guided tour and downloaded an app on our smartphones. Be sure to bring your own earbuds for convenience and quality. Have bottled water with you, it was allowed. There are some shaded areas to escape the direct sun. We chose to listen to the narration mostly in the inside spaces which were a little cooler but even the air conditioned area are not cold so be prepared. So interesting to experience Chihuly glass incorporated throughout. I thought it added to the experience in a colorful and meaningful way. I recommend this experience.

You have to arrange tour in advance to visit. Seems am visits have human guide while pm are audio guide. They pretend the two are equivalent but, of course, they are not.
Fortunately the Concierge at Four Seasons Resort was able to resolve our difficulty obtaining the human guide. Our guide, Deb, was outstanding: she really knew everything anyone in our group of 25+/- wanted to know and made everything about the place as interesting as possible.
While the actual building at Taliesin West isn't as nice (in my personal opinion) as the original Wisconsin Taliesin, it had it's own charm; by the time FLW moved there, he seemed to have what he wanted to achieve pretty nailed down.
On site there is also a nice shop with souvenirs and books.

We opted for the self-guided tour, as we had visited years before. Unfortunately, the audio via headphones and their own iPads, just didn’t work well. We had trouble with volume, moving to the next segment, and completely being unable to restart the commentaries. There was no one on the route through the tour to help, and many of us had the same problem. The simple solution would be seamless - not clunky- tech, and why not have small discreet signs indicating which number of the audio corresponded to where we were, as many museums with audio guides do? Our enjoyment was hampered by missing a great deal of the self tour. Taliesen and the Wright legacy deserve better. We also found the pairing of Wright’s philosophy with Dale Chihuly’s forced and detracted from fully understanding this great master’s designs. That said, a fabulous setting for a seminal architectural style.

What an interesting combination of Chihuly at Taliesin West when Frank Lloyd Wright was known to be a control freak about all the design elements of his spaces! The audio tour included facts about both artists & was very interesting. The small sculptures on display along with the beautiful plantings there were a bonus to the architectural details of the compound.

I'm not even sure I can put into words how this beautiful place made me feel. I'm a big fan of Frank Lloyd Wright and of Chihuly so it was only natural that I would visit here while in Phoenix. I wish I had the chance to get a tour of the inside of the house but there were no tours at night. Sunset was an absolutely stunning time to go because the lighting just enhanced the scenery. I could've stayed there forever. The sense of peace and calmness was absolutely amazing. I can't wait to return.

Which tour would you take if you could only do one. The combination desert walk and insights tour or
The behind the scenes tour?

I would take the Behind the Scenes Tour, for sure. With the tour we took (the only one still available as we were last-minuting our trip to the house), we were only able to see about 4 rooms, which was pretty disappointing, and many areas were closed off to us. We were teased with the presence of other spaces, like "If you look into the window here you can see his studio", but we were not allowed in. Also, if you're visiting in the summer as we were, it's already 100 degrees in the shade some days. I would prefer to see more of the house, and think any architecture lover would prefer that. Hikers and visitors in winter might prefer to walk the landscape...

What tour do you recommend? I see there are tours for an hour, 90 minutes and 2 hours.

Our most popular tour is the 90 minutes Insights Tour. You see most of the Historic Core of the property. Die hard fans should definitely consider the Behind the Scenes tour.
