My husband really wanted to hike Camelback Mountain, so I was hesitant but agreed. There’s a reason this hike is considered a double black diamond. It is not for the novice hiker (i.e. me) The start is great, but then you get about 1/4 of...More

So I went for a hike with my nephew, up Camelback Mountain. I am slightly over weight, and from the pictures you can see I had regular tennis shoes and was wearing pants. A few area had stones where I didn't have traction. It was...More

This is a tough, steep hike with great city views at the top. It took us (fit, but not hurried people) a little over an hour to climb to the drop and we were dripping with sweat when we arrived - be sure to bring...More

Echo Trail was a great way to climb Camelback Mountain. It was 60 degrees and partly cloudy, so much more comfortable then when my co-worker did it on a 90 degree day. Good parking, restrooms, and water at the trailhead. Trail is very well marked....More

Gorgeous hike that will challenge you. Over 1400 feet of elevation gain in a mile and a half. Lots of rock scrambling. Do yourself a favor and take a few snacks for a beautiful picnic at the top. Only downside is that this is a...More

Gorgeous views all around. One of my favorite hikes anywhere. It is a challenge for most of us since it gets pretty steep at the top.

This is not an easy hike, particularly if you are not used to the warmer AZ temperatures, the dryer air, and the dust. Be prepared with bottles of water, take your time, and do the hike with a friend or group.

This hike is always a challenge. November is a great time of year to do it. Wonderful views at the summit! I’m 50 and will hopefully continue to make this hike!

It depends on the time of day! It can be 114 degrees at 1 PM. Best to hike VERY early in the AM and bring more water than you think you need. Lately the average temp has been 104.

No. You cannot drive up to the top of the mountain. However, for the Cholla Trail, you can park very close and start your trek up.

yes there are at the trail start but nothing after that, that is the same for 90% of the trails we have done in Arizona and California.
