This hill fortress and look-out post is, I am told, the sole remaining example of a chain of similar defensive devices (possibly as many as 150) built by a pre-Incan tribe that came to develop a sort of federated state incorporating a substantial part of...More

This was very disappointing .. Only if the Pucara de Tilcara was left as it was found instead of being rebuilt. The pyramid on top is not authentic & is a memorial paying homage to few archeologists. The only good thing is the view on...More

Not enough explanations, not so interesting, the reconstruction is far from accurate. The pyramid build memorsting the archeologist is on archeological findings!!

The site is interesting, although mainly rebuilt. I suggest to combine it with the visit to the archeological museum in Tilcara to better understand the history and habits of the population living in the pucara.

This is a huge area that allows you to walk out into a dramatic part of the Tilcara hills. You can sense the history as you walk. We were almost put off by reviewer complaints about the ugly modern pyramid, but don't be. Its a...More

We were on the fence regarding a visit to this restored ruin and I’m glad we did. It’s very well restored and resembles Machu Picchu in some ways! It’s well worth a visit!

This place looks nice and it is a fun thing to do if you have some extra time. Probably a good thing to get a guide, so you can get some information. It’s a nice walk and the scenery is beautiful.

We arrived here in late afternoon which allowed for some nice light to photograph the cactus. Much of the village is reportedly rebuilt. It’s very interesting to see. There are rocky paths that may be too much for folks with mobility issues or strollers. I...More

The Pucara is the main feature of Tilcara and provides an interesting set of ruins of an Inca fortress amongst giant cacti and with a spectacular backdrop. We came here in the late afternoon and very much enjoyed the walk around the Pucara, together with...More
