I am a professional ballet dancer and teacher from New York and visited La Viruta for my first tango lesson early in the evening. They form three groups between beginners, intermediate, and advanced dancers and you choose which you attend. Because I am new to...More

This place is for tango lovers. No matter your level, you can take tango lessons. Then after the classes are over, you can stay up until 4AM watching the locals dancing as professionals. Get dinner somewhere else, the food there is not their specialty

It's not a very glamorous place. It's just a basement, food is horrible and you not gonna get a good cocktail (stick to beer and wine - also, it's cash only). But it's true that's this is where "average people" come to dance and learn...More

No need to book, however we did email ahead to check on timings of classes. You pay on the door - very cheap from memory!

I think you can dance with whoever you want as long as you tell your teacher that you don't want to swap the partners . It's common that everyone circulate and swaps parents during the practice .
