About
Goede Hoop Wine Estate is situated off the old road between the towns of Stellenbosch and Kuils River, deep in the valley known as the Bottelary Kloof. The old farmhouse, rich in atmosphere, was built in 1880. In 1928 the Bestbier family purchased the wine estate and today Pieter Bestbier is a third generation winemaker on Goede Hoop.

What a pleasant wine tasting. Pieter, the owner of the farm, made us feel so welcome. He walked us through the cellar as well. Latest addition to their range of lovely wines is the MCC

Situated in the wine valley of Stellenbosch, with a beautiful old farm house and a classical wine cellar. It is not commercialize as many of the other wine farms and that's what made it the best wine farm that we have visited! They have a excellent wine maker which personally took us on a tour and explained to us exactly how wine is made. He also took us down to there underground cellar to do some wonderful wine tasting!!! We could not ask for better wine! Definitely a must visit when in cape town!!!

I had my 50th Birthday Party in the private cellar at Goede Hoop last Friday evening and it was a truly wonderful experience. A four course dinner cooked by the great chefs from the Hot Skillet in Cape Town combined with a full wine pairing (each couple are allowed to choose a bottle from the exclusive collection) with the guidance of Johan - the owner's son - is really to be recommenced if you are a foodie and wine fan. The farm is as authentic as it gets - if you are looking for stainless steel, glass and fancy artworks this is not for you - but if you want a real experience and to scratch below the surface of a real working wine farm then this will not disappoint. Thanks again to Johan , Pieter and team for a wonderful evening.

Yet again another hidden jem in Stellenbosch went there with family and friends owner and wine maker Pieter Bestbier took us on a tour with a CHAMPAGNE EXPERIENCE. Pieter explained and demonstrated a unique but old way of opening champagne with a sword "a bit messy and wastage" but opened the bottle. Then gave a wine tasting angel quiz all ending up in a delightful day. Also a must on any wine tasting tour. All Goede Hoop wines and MCC are great get there and taste for yourself.

We had a wonderful time with Johan, the son of the owner, that spend the whole afternoon explaining us the history of the farm and the region. It was a true wine tasting experience and not some commercial fake touristy experience. Thanks for that Johan!

Pieter makes a great host. He ably demonstrates his extensive knowledge as a grower, producer of fine wine(s) and an appreciation and understanding of how subjective wine tasting is! No pretence, just great commentary. On request, he presented several of his Shiraz vintages and worked with us through a (generous) tasting. It as a pity we could not arrange his fine dining, with wine pairing experience we are sure it too would be memorable! Next time? Thanks Pieter.
