Had 3 hours till my flight. Popped in at Meerlust and what a surprise. Not the typical commercialised winefarm but rather a friendly typical farm setup. Host set me up in front of the fireplace with a glass of the best wine I've had in a long time. This is the place for quality rather than quantity. Will be back soon.

It was unfortunate that this was the last wine farm on our organised tour as I think we were all a bit "wined out" (in a good way!) and some needed to doze in the comfy sofas.

The wine tasting was interesting and the staff informative

We have vowed to return and be more appreciative!

Went on a wine tour today, as this is a label we drink regularly. Was very surprised at how low key the tasting rooms were, compared to other vineyards, and how few people were there. Guess you don’t need to be too commercial when your wines are good!
Staff were very friendly and helpful. Wines are great. Even have a UK supplier.
Well worth a visit.

We made a quick stop at Meerlust at the recommendation of our driver who knows the owner and the staff. It's a beautiful estate characterized by old Cape Dutch architecture. Our driver pointed out a car in the driveway that he says used to belong to Elton John. Must be a great story there! The staff are friendly and welcoming. Do note that the tasting room is very small. There was only one other guest when we arrived on a Wednesday afternoon so this wasn't a problem but I could imagine it getting busy on a weekend. We had a great overview of the wines from the server. She didn't just go over a script as many in the industry do. You can tell she enjoys her job and connecting with guests over a shared love of wine. We would have loved to have stayed longer. I really enjoyed the Rubicon, in particular, and bought a bottle to take home with me. We briefly met the owner who greeted us warmly. It really is a lovely, down-to-earth and unpretentious place that produces red wines of high quality. And the tasting only costs 30 rand ($2). A real steal!

This is a no nonsense winery. Beautiful old cape Dutch house. You will walk through the working yard to get to the tasting room. Very basic but authentic. Our wine tasting experience didn’t get off to the best start but the situation was rescued by the lovely Tricia. This lady knows how to engage with people and once we found some common ground it was very hard to leave her company - a wonderful hostess (sorry about the pun Tricia!)

I buy their wine in the uk on a regular basis, so this was a must do visit on our trip. Quite a low key place to visit but once inside, the welcome is warm and the staff knowledgeable. Great selection of wines to taste and good background information if you are a keen wine lover.

This was our least favorite of three tastings as our winery representative did not explain it

We did enjoy their red wines and bought their red blend Rubicon which was especially good
