Outstanding wines, views, and most knowledgeable and pleasant sommelier.
May 2021
We enjoyed a wine tasting at Delaire Graff's wine lounge on Saturday 15 May 2021. Dillon, the sommelier, was a most knowledgeable and pleasant young man who clearly is well educated in the history of wines and has a passion for the wines of the region and especially those of Delaire Graff. We plan on returning, next time to enjoy the vegan menu at the Indochine restaurant. From the entrance to the estate one is surrounded by the most exquisite art pieces, many Lionel Smit paintings and work by local artists. The ambiance in the wine lounge with its purple leather chairs and inviting fireplace had us stay longer than planned and tasting more wines than planned!

Wow!

Well, what can I say other than this place is truly breathtaking! The setting is absolutely stunning. There are sculptures and art dotted around the estate, which make it feel almost other-worldly. The views are pretty special, and then we have the wines! We only visited for a wine tasting but spent about 3 hours just soaking up the whole place. Special thanks to James for making the tasting so enjoyable during our visit. We can’t wait to be back to try the restaurants, or even the spa and lodges!

Beautiful wines and stunning view of the mountains from the outdoor terrace
Apr 2021
This winery is lovely, but a bit corporate. It has stunning views looking out over the mountains if you sit outside on the terrace. Other parts of the winery seemed more like a restaurant or high end hotel. There is even a jewellery shop on premises as we heard it's owned by one of the top diamond traders in South Africa.
We tasted several whites and reds, including three different Chardonnays. Our sommelier, James, was excellent and extremely knowledgeable about the wines and winemaking more generally.
The other standout wine that we tasted is the powerful Botmaskop red blend. It is definitely worth a try.
As this was our last tasting of the day and we wanted to head back to our hotel, we ordered a meat and cheese platter to go. The chef kindly obliged and packaged up the food for takeaway.
Because of the corporate nature of this place, we were inclined to give it a 4, but because of the service and the quality of the wine, we bumped it up to a 5.

The real crown jewel of the winelands
Nov 2020 • Couples
There are a few places where a Hawaiian shirt, thrift-store corduroys, and old sneakers fit in: a festival, a university, a downtown coffee shop for hipsters.

But one place that certainly doesn’t fit the aesthetic are the exquisitely manicured gardens and sumptuously furnished restaurant of Delaire Graf wine estate. From the moment we first drove in, I felt like a father at a Bieber concert or a liberal at a Trump rally. I was expecting side long glances of distaste from the waiters and guests, hushed murmurs of disapproval as I walked past, and the kiddies menu presented with a sneer by the hostess.

But instead, from the first security guard, to the parking attendants and all the wait staff, I was greeted with the utmost warmth and welcoming.

Delaire Graf is known as the Crown Jewel of the winelands but the real Crown Jewel is Darren, our knowledgeable and kind waiter for the day. Ne’er was an empty glass laid down that Darren was not at our side, ready with our next delicious treat from the vines of Delaire.

The endlessly indulgent view was only complemented by his reassuring smile and the sound of birdsong held aloft by his confident introduction to each wine and gentle banter with our table.

The wine and view are worth a second visit, but undoubtedly it’s the wait staff like Darren that will keep me coming back.

Incredible Wine, Landscape & People
Feb 2020
We visited Delaire Graff first thing in the morning on our day in Stellenbosch, and we are so thankful we did. Our only regret is that we did not spend more time there. The wine is incredible as is the estate. The service is equally as fantastic. Danny provided our tasting, and by the time we left, we ordered six bottles to be shipped and took two bottles with us. Danny introduced us to more than just our selection, and he was a joy to speak with. Next time we visit Stellenbosch, we truly hope to stay at Delaire Graff.

Great Tasting experience, beautiful property
Mar 2020
This property, part of the Relais & Chateaux group, is simply stunning. A lot of care and attention went into the design of the hotel and restaurants. The grounds and the hotel interiors are filled with art from local artists, making the place even more special.

We arrived quite late in the day, hoping to get in for a wine tasting before it closed. When we arrived, the desk told us that it was doubtful that we'd be seated, as it was already full, but encouraged us to wait a little while, just in case. Fortunately, a few moments later, we were told that they had a table for us.

And we were glad they did. The 3 wines we tasted were all exceptional. We opted for the premium red wines, and they were perfect for out palates. As the sun was setting over the mountain range we viewed from our patio table, it made the wines even more enjoyable.

I'd recommend booking a table in advance, as this is a very popular winery, and it fills up quickly. But make sure you visit this one, when you're in Stellenbosch.

Meh...
Feb 2020 • Business
5 stars for the beautiful gardens & stunning views & good wine selections.
4 stars for wonderful staff. Friendly accommodating & super knowledgeable.
3 stars for ambience
2 stars for the tacky decor. Trully dissatisfied & disappointed of such level of poor taste. Who ever designed this place not only needs to be fired but should give the money back. It felt like Napa valley. And that's not good.
