Our favorite winery in the entire country!!!
Feb 2018
This winery is amazing. The white wines are the best. The red wines remind me very much of some of our favorites in Napa Valley. Suzanne, the sister of the 4th generation wine maker David Van Velden runs the tasting room and is very knowledgeable! The space is historic and comfortable. The air conditioning is very nice on those scorching hot days. David and his wife Nicole are incredibly welcoming. We've visited during the harvest while everyone is busy - and they still take the time to show you around and share their families history! The restaurant on the estate is highly recommended as well! A must see!

By Appointment Only - Wonderful Stop
Nov 2017 • Couples
We stopped here as part of a private wine tasting tour with Camino Wine Tours (highly recommend them). Suzanne, a member of the family that owns the winery, was our hostess. The wine was very good and stories behind the wines made it all the more enjoyable. We were the only ones there but never felt hurried - it was like being in a friend's house.

Great wine, great tasting!!

Thank you very much for the hospitality!! We very much enjoyed our visit to your lovely farm.

For those considering - this is very much worth a stop while you're in Stellenbosch. Tastings are poured by members of the family who still own and operate the entire operation. We enjoyed our wine and some great conversation on South African culture and traditions as an added bonus!

Thanks again.

Family Wine Farm
Mar 2015 • Couples
This is a firm favourite of ours, we have been coming back for years. My husband adores the Port and today I bought another three bottles of Cabernet Sauvignon to take back to England.

Unfortunately the restaurant wasn't open today but next time I'm in the country I'm heading straight to Overgaauw.

Felt like part of the family and great wine
"I am only the caretaker of this land", were the first words you hear from the winemaker/owner David. He is clearing making wine because he loves it. The commercial aspect is secondary.
The winery is in a unique location with mountains protecting the wines from the south-easter and generally being in a cooler area.
We were able to taste two different plots of Sauvignon Blanc. The lower plot being more tart think green apple and the higher more exposed tasting of tropical fruits and sweeter.
We had an older Tria Corda, the premium cabernet sauvignon. Definitely try the Cape Vintage (port style). They are released when they are getting close to being ready to drink.
We didn't get a chance to try the restaurants, but it looks down to earth and homey just like the estate. If you have had enough of the big, commercial estate, visit Overgaauw to learn about the real reasons for making wine!

Story of a family
Sep 2013 • Couples
When me and my girlfriend did our first wine tour in 2012 this was our 2nd farm. But did we love the story of this farm. Do yourself a favour and go to this farm and ask what is the story of the brides. Try their cape vintage port and we love the national touriga wine. It is one of the best wines I ever had and every time we visit cape town we will go back to this farm.
