We stopped here on a rainy morning as part of our Winelands Tour with Jarat Tours and our guide, Sorita. While it was a bit early in the morning to start drinking wine, we soldiered on. Since it was rainy, we did not see views around the estate although we had seen the multitude of vines in the area. We were very interested in trying pilotage wines as this was a new varietal for us. We liked the Cadette Pinotage here and purchased a bottle to enjoy at our hotel. The server was interesting and knowledgeable but we did find the room a bit cold - they definitely should have lit the fire. Since I was missing my dog back home, I had fun petting the resident Irish Setters.

Never realised Kanonkop was diagonally opposite Warwick where we have often tasted and enjoyed a picnic. I planned to visit whilst on Holiday in December 2022 and following a let down with our picnic at Warwick, we hot footed over the road to this lovely wine farm.
For a wine tasting only establishment the experience was fantastic, sampling all the wines from Pinotage Rose which was very nice all the way through different vintages to show aging potential including Cape Blend, Cabernet Sauvignon and Pinotage through to the Paul Sauer and Black Label Pinotage.
Our host was very welcoming and I left a gift from one of my many accumulated wines from our travels as a thankyou.
They have some lovely dogs that roam around and come and say hello if you are a dog lover.
Hopefully we will be back in the future and definitely stop by again. A must visit when in Stellenbosch.

We loved our tasting at Kanonkop - was able to sit outside in the sunshine and the wines were lovely especially the Cabernet Sauvignon.
You can taste the complete range tasting which consists of seven wines and costs only R100 and the fee is waived if you make any purchases.
We tried six of their wines and really enjoyed them - we bought a bottle of the Cape Blend for that evening and the Cabernet Sauvignon to take back to the UK.
We very much hope to return.

We stopped for a quick wine tasting at this beautiful estate. Easy to access from N1 via Klapmuts Road on way to Stellenbosch. Amazing red wines and very friendly and attentive staff that help with all information on these wines and other recommendations. The Kadette range is more affordable, but the Estate range offer some amazing wines. Highly recommend a visit.

Guy's this is Definitely not the way to treat clients, you are more concerned about your accolades than treating clients properly.
Unfortunately your wines are only OK,there are very many wines way better than yours.
We have visited 3 times, not sure if we'll be back.

By far the worst service in all the 7 wineries we visited in Franschhoek. Disinterested unwelcoming staff provided no information on the wines or the winery and after paying gave us the wrong bottles. The wines are good but you can taste them at any local restaurant, or do your own research and purchase them at any local shop. The estate itself has nothing special to it. There are a number of better places to dedicate your time while in Franschhoek.

This is how I like to do wine tasting. After a day of wine estates that were more theme park than winery, stepping into the cool shade of the tasting room at Kanonkop was a welcome relief. Knowledgeable staff steered us through a relaxed flight of excellent wines, noting our preferences and making educated suggestions. Our kids had a good time playing with the very friendly dogs outside and all in all it was a relaxed and pleasant experience. The wine here is spectacular and I didn't feel the sales pressure I experienced at other locations which let me find something I'm really going to be happy about when I uncork it in a few years. This was definitely my favourite wine tasting of our day in wine country!

Our server had an accent that in the UK you would call very plummy. Rather haughty, superior and disdainful on the one hand, but in another light amusing, very dry and quite entertainly cryptic. Each to his/her own but perhaps less than ideal. They had a bad fire apparently in approx. October 2013 and have had to 'make do' so some sympathy with them may be in order from later visitors.
The actual tasting through the red wines we chose was thorough and generous and the wines are very good and excellent value. R230 for Pinotage (about £15), we found it for £25 in Majestic in the UK.
3 stars for overall experience, definitely 4+ for wne.

If you read Tim Atkin's reviews this is the producer of the best wine in South Africa, one of the best in the world. But their vineyard is unpretentious, far less commercialised than some others and is much the better for it. Friendly staff are extremely knowledgeable. A really pleasant and enjoyable experience.

Going on wine tour with Pietman Retief from Franschhoek. Only want to go to 4 or 5 tastings. Where are the essentials apart from Kanonkop & where for lunch? Plan to do the museum in Stellenbosch in the afternoon for a break from wine tasting
