We love Root44 and was so glad when they finally opened their upstairs restaurant. There is just a few things to note:
1. It is three different restaurants in one space that looks exactly the same.
2. Which means that even though you can see people doing a wind tasting at the next table, you might not be able to order that.
3. On one occasion we went and at the wine tasting section, you cannot order platters, although they are on the menu - no explanation given.
4. On another occasion we were on the food side where we couldn’t order a sushi platter - no explanation given even though it is on the menu. But you can order the individual elements of the platter and they will serve it to you on the same dish - go figure
5. We ordered a Chardonnay tasting (includes amazing Stellenbosch wines). The waiter came back and asked if we wouldn’t rather prefer one tasting glass of Chardonnay, one of Sauvignon Blanc, one of Chenin… you get the picture. The staff has zero wine training, serving these great wines from the region.
6. We also ordered a rare reds tasting where we were told that they have never served it before so they do not actually know anything about the wines so they just put it in front of us.
Great concept, great wines, great sushi but majorly lacking in the staff department. The staff needs training ASAP and the menu needs refining. And lastly, Management, maybe share with your staff the reasons for not offering certain items?

This was my first experience of South Africa, it was mindblowing. I had food from the different stalls and they were all spectacular. We sat on the benches to try Stellanboschs wine, and there was live music playing. The atmosphere was so unique. I would definitely recommend anyone visiting Cape Town to come here. Uber is very cheap to get here if you don't have a car.

This is not a market anymore. Just food stall after food stall with some very expensive art works in between. It used the be filled will all sorts, from plants to leather shoes and belts and even old vinyl records, great beers and good food at decent prices.
It is now a commercial restaurant where you will pay R45 for a cup of coffee.
Not a market at all.
Go once and see it but be prepared for the expense and the lack of charm it once used to have.

Excellent venue - vast but with so many breakout areas that it somehow felt intimate for our group. The staff were very attentive and professional. The food and drinks were very good - a special mention goes to their wine based cocktails (which have become necessary whilst they wait for their liquor license).

We were recommended to go and visit this market - and wow, what an experience!
All the different craft stalls are a joy to wander around with so much variety on what was for sale.
There was a separate barn selling garden furniture and other larger items and then there was the foodie area ...
I don't think I have ever seen so many different stalls selling so much different food, ice cream, drinks, alcohol - we were completely spoiled for choice
You can then take your food and drink out to a covered area where there are long tables and benches to sit and enjoy the ambience - and even live music
We had an incredible few hours there and can't wait to go there again
I believe they are open every Saturday and Sunday

Open Saturdays and Sundays only, visit in the morning if you want to avoid the rush and get a seat in the winter sun. a wide variety of food stalls with something for everyone ! Rolling lawns to pick nick on (buy your food & wine on the premises), dog friendly for furry friends as well. Enough secure parking, clean bathrooms.

We stumbled on this market as we were driving around the area and we were happy we did! The market is undercover and there are all sorts of artisan style stalls. But once you get in, there is a myriad of food stalls serving anything and everything you could want including craft beers and great coffee's. There was also a band playing so you could sit and relax, eat great food and enjoy!

This place was recommended to me by someone for Sunday morning breakfast in Cape Town. I was not very sure about the menu but surprisingly when I entered the market I was amazed with wide range of menu Indian, Chinese, Thai, Turkeies, Mexican, American & many more. The best part is the Craft beer - Geman, Belgium etc. Beer & food price is quite cheap and the food quality is great. Moreover, live music & performances add up to the real fun !!! Must Must visit place!

We’ve visited Root44 Market simply the BEST market around! The variety and offering of the food stalls is fantastic.
Upstairs, new Restaurant, The Coffee Shop, and the wine tasting is a must visit, there is simply so much to enjoy.
For the young ones the kiddies play area, so much to do for the whole family!
Not to mention the art gallery is a must see!
The views, open area and outdoor seating on the first floor is mesmerising, like a fairy tale come true!
Thank you Root44 for creating such an amazing and unbelievable venue!

Yes I'd say so... the pathways around stalls are wide, even and flat, but not paved.
