About
Vergenoegd Löw The Wine Estate is located along the Stellenbosch Wine Route, on the Eerste River, only 40 kilometres from Cape Town in the South African region of the Western Cape. The manor house overlooks the Helderberg mountain range to the east, and Table Mountain to the northwest. Today, Vergenoegd Löw is not only one of the most valuable cultural assets and monuments in the country; the South African government announced in 2021 that Vergenoegd Löw will be registered on the UNESCO list of world heritage sites.

So near to Cape Town, yet so far
I must have driven past Vergenoegd dozens of times on the way to wine estates in Stellenbosch and Franschhoek. Big mistake. This one can't be more than 12 minutes from the airport. You can actually see (but not hear) the N2 - so near, yet so far. Refreshingly ungentrified, Geuwels restaurant oozes serenity. The food is delicious and excellent value for money. (R 500 for a couple to share 7 tapas-style plates.) Abathia and her smiling team were the cherry on top. What's in a name? Abathia is Greek and means calmness.

    Stunning lunch with a difference
We enjoyed lunch at the estate. The facility is immaculate and we watched the ducks being taken off to clear the vineyards of insects. The small plate menu meal was absolutely delicious with a variety of interesting options

    Peaceful stay
Peaceful retreat , stayed for 2 nights , lovely room with a jacuzzi - watched the morning duck walk it was very sweet . Staff were all excellent and professional . Used the gym , needs a fridge with water and smaller weights . It was very quiet we were the only couple at dinner , great deserts but the main course a choice of proteins needs tweaking not a fine dining course - Would recommend for a peaceful break

    wow, going to return
Beautiful place with amazing huge rooms, outstanding food, beautiful grounds and lots of space to just roam around. I was surprised it wasn't busier. Their own wine is quite good as well - definitely worth a try. porters helped with getting bags to the rooms. Buggy to distant rooms but it's not too far to walk. There is a small gym. There are walking trails all around the property. Breakfast is amazing. Service was excellent throughout the visit.

Clara's Barn. A wonderful culinary experience!
We had dinner at Claras Barn last night and it was amazing!! We did the wine pairing menu. Every course was absolutely delicious! Bianca and Christian were fantastic hosts. Both had an excellent knowledge of the food and wines. The decor in the restaurant, which were the old stables was very tastefully done. The setting of the restaurant overlooking the dam with a fantastic sunset view was spectacular! I can highly recommend this restaurant for a fantastic dining experience!

Contrary to all Google searches there was no duck run at 10am
When question when the duck run will be on Sunday 12 March 2023 we were informed the ducks already came past just after 9am
Asking when the next run is, we were told “they are wild animals” it can be anytime from 11:30. No fixed time.
11:45 we left, no ducks.
We were not happy, as we experienced it before, wanted our guests to have the same experience and we waisted a whole morning waiting for something nobody could really confirm.

Arrived at lunch time on a Sunday. No one was there to welcome us. We assumed it was free seating as there were no signs and plenty of open tables. As soon as we sat down a staff member asked us to move because our table was booked. We asked for another, they said every table was booked. No interest in showing any flexibility. No interest in being accommodating. We might as well have been shooe’d out. If they wont invest in decent service, this place needs to at least buy some reserved signs 🙄
