About
Vergenoegd Löw The Wine Estate is a Heritage site and one of the oldest wine estates on the Stellenbosch Wine Route. Easy access from the freeway and merely 20 minutes from Cape Town International Airport. Indian Runner Ducks are used in our vineyards as a form of natural pest control, helping us to eliminate the use of conventional pest control methods. Our army of 1000 ducks parade in front of the Manor House on their way to and back from the vineyards and may be seen by guests on a daily basis. We also offer unique and personalized blending experience (coffee, olive oil, tea and wine) as well as breakfast, lunch and picnics. We host a weekly Family market, every Saturday live entertainment once a month, showcasing some of SA's best musical talent.

Not great
Apr 2021 • Family
Booked. Visited on 17th April 2021. Were told that the duck run was not happening due to Covid but that we would see the ducks foraging. Saw a couple of ducks on the lawn only...non in the vineyard. Service was beyond bad despite the waiters best efforts. No menu...long waits. Really disappointing.

Pleasant and interesting
Jan 2020
Set in pleasant grounds, with a partly shaded wine tasting area, this winery pleases from the outset. We were served by friendly and knowledgeable staff; the selection of wines on offer is quite good, although in the end we purchased only their LBV (Port equivalent - the key differences were explained to us carefully). If you want a picnic, the deli is acceptable, though a little expensive. We met the general manager who explained to us how they were renovating the restaurant, and aiming to serve meals using ingredients of the period when the farm was founded; he was hoping to open for the 2020/21 season. But the key attraction must be the Great Duck Run, shortly before noon across the summer. Hilarious, and not to be missed.

The ducks! I’m not a great wine drinker, but the other half gives a thumbs up. Coffee and snacks available and an oasis of green

This is a fabulous place to visit! Runner ducks and their guard geese are corralled and marshalled from a lake to a garden. They run and quack and then perform their duties! The estate is free to enter and is very peaceful.

Duck run and wonderful outing
Jan 2020 • Family
This is one of the best wine estates near Stellenbosch. The wine estate caters for an amazing wine tasting and picnic experience. The duck run was enjoyed by my toddlers . They loved feeding and looking at the hundreds of ducks marching through the picturesque gardens. This is definitely a must see experience for the whole family.

Duck March
Jan 2020 • Friends
We were passing through Stellenbosch and had been recommended this vineyard primarily for the duck march. I can’t comment on any of the food or drink as this was a whistle stop on our way to Franschhoek.

It seemed we arrived at the right time as the ducks were making their way from the low walled garden area to the lake - this is a real sight to see! It was sweet, and also quite fun to watch. I can see how this would be a highlight for many visitors!

We went to see the ducks run
Feb 2020
I expected the ducks to be running into the vineyard to eat all the bugs and slugs.
Instead, they were herded from their pond through a little fenced area to the other side of the lawn where they grazed? a bit.
Very cute but to chase ducks around just as an attraction? Not so impressive.
They were sweet but maybe more for children.

My host did not recommend the food.

Dear GundaJohannesburg Thank you for visiting our beautiful farm and for taking the time to share your experience, we appreciate your valuable feedback. At this time of the year, during harvest season, our ducks are on a well-deserved rest after all snails and pests have been eradicated, ensuring that our vines and grapes are healthy. Once grapes have been harvested, our ducks return to the vineyards to pursue pest control in our sustainable approach to farming. Our famous Duck Parade is not merely an attraction but rather a daily routine that trains younger ducklings to walk in an orderly fashion through our vineyards while providing our valued guests the opportunity to see and learn more about our ducks (this also keeps the mature ducks in routine). We hope to see you at our farm soon again to personally taste something delicious from the menu, available from our new Farm Deli. Kind Regards David

Lunch
Feb 2020
What a disappointment! This place has so much potential but the staff and the prices let it down. We went for Sunday lunch on a beautiful day.
One can sit outside under the trees and make up ones own picnic by buying from the deli on site or ordering from the kitchen.
The staff were so disinterested to the point of rudeness especially a young girl at the till point ( unfortunately didn’t get her name). At least another 3 customers complained about her rudeness.
Overpriced food - Dalewood Camembert R80. I pay around R40
And the cooked food was disappointing.
The runner duck parade was the only highlight. Go for that and skip all else.
