Good news for all persons wanting an eating and walking experience that will last a lifetime.
I am of course referring to the Bites and Sites Food Tours of Stellenbosch, South Africa! Now, where to start? Well, that's easy!
Louise Smit of Bites and Sites!
Louise was a tour de force on the food tour she hosted during my visit to Stellenbosch! My partner, Cecilia and I munched and drank our way across Stellenbosch, in high fashion, while under the professional guidance of Louise!
The tour began with a walk through the botanical gardens of Stellenbosch, to be followed with a beautiful tea ceremony in one of historical town buildings. As the tour continued, we transitioned into a popular Stellenbosch gin tasting location. Lastly, the tour was concluded with the most interesting South African coffee café which featured the best coffee presentation I have ever witnessed. The show was presented by Irishman Mike Jones. Thank you, Mike, for the fond memories of your cakes and coffees!
All and all, Bites and Sites was one of the highlights of my stay in South Africa and I highly recommend the tour for everyone that sets foot in Stellenbosch, South Africa!
Thank you, Louise, you have become a part of Cecilia and my life forever!

Thank you Kevin and Cecilia - we thoroughly enjoyed spoiling you and can't wait to see you again. You are such a beautiful couple who crept into Louise's heart and found a permanent spot there!!

Our family of 6 (mixed adults) ventured forth with Louise our wonderful guide plus 2 other brave explorers walked and tasted our way around old Stellenbosch, hearing the tale of Simon Van der Stell & his flowing locks, who slept under a bush & realised what a beautiful place this was & hence the Town was founded. We tasted teas and wonderful South African cakes inspired by the many settlers to the area, visited a butcher to see how the traditional dried meats were made, an artisan bakers and a wonderful gin tasting culminating in the most delicious lunch at the oldest hotel in the town. This was sublime, I particularly loved the babootie. Of course this was washed down by some local red wine!
A different perspective of a charming town.

We had the pleasure of meeting Simone for the Bites in a Box tour - it was fabulous! The way Simone was able to accommodate our family (dietary restrictions and young kids) was beyond what we imagined. The coffee tasting (tea for the kids) was delicious, all the food was fantastic, and the historical information and art sites were so well incorporated. We felt very safe with the covid protocols and enjoyed walking around beautiful Stellenbosch! Simone even had some suggestions for things we could do after the tour. We would do any tour with Bites and Sites again in a heartbeat!

It was so lovely having your family on tour. Your 2 girls are such a delight; I loved watching them lick their lips after each tasting. Thank you so much for the amazing support and I hope you got home safely. Sending hugs to you all

The starting point was so easy to find and plenty of street parking in front of the building. We met Louise who was to be Oudh for the next 3.5 hours. She was friendly and chatty. Not a huge amount of walking which was great but a few visits to key places and talking as we went along with some stops at key sights. The places we stopped at to sample food and wine were excellent and friendly. The final stop and lunch was superb and we got a real taste of the town.

Highly recommended.

Yes indeed, it's more of a stroll than a walk. And tasting the town is what it's all about! Thank you for your review.

What a lovely chilled experience.
Lots of sights and exploring the local museum and surrounds.

We tried fantastic tastes with pairings at various local places to give us a feel of Stellenbosch.

Ending off with delicious tea and dessert pairings as well.

What a great morning spent with Lameez on tour. She knew her Stellenbosch history and it was very informative.

We had a really great foodie on foot tour of Stellenbosch which we did with Simone. Simone was very knowledgable about Stellenbosch and took us to places to try food and drink we wouldn’t have gone to on our own. We have visited Stellenbosch before but still learnt more about the town. The foodie on foot tour is to be recommended.

Was an interesting experience! We were lucky to have Marlene as our guide...... entertaining and always considering each ones needs. We enjoyed really good Kraft beer at De Stomme Jonge, some very moreish gin
pairing at Jardine's and ended our tour with a delicious lunch and coffee experience at The Blue Crane & The Butterfly.

Was lovely day out and highly recommendable!

End of November we had a tour of Stellenbosch, the 2 of us, a German couple and Simone, our guide.
We walked around, heard a lot of interesting facts about Stellenbosch and this during a wine and tea tasting and a nice lunch where we each had 4 different typical dishes. Just perfect.
We also visited the eldest butcher and I absolutely loved the funny jokes glued to the counter there.
Simone is a very nice and wellinformed guide, Stellenbosch is a beautiful town and no better way to discover than via Bites & Sites.

Thank you - we love Stellenbosch and are glad that you enjoyed your introduction to this beautiful town. (And yes, the jokes at the butchery always make our guests smile!)

Hanli organized a wonderful Cape Malay cooking class. The chef Latifa was very sweet and shared her cooking secrets and recipes. We got to prepare and eat delicious authentic food and learn about Cape Malay culture, people and food. Great experience!
