Stumbled on this spot in Stellenbosch today - had a sandwich sitting in the park - beautiful proteas out in flower and spoke with a gentleman who volunteered there John - a nice fellow. Lovely place to explore

The best place where you can get the nature in all your photographs. I highly recommend families to have their Sunday Picnics here.

It's one of our favourite afternoon stroll with the dogs and kids. I alway see something expecting and new with each visit. Either a breeding guinea fowl or a huge mountain tortoises. The paths are well kept and small gems everywhere, like the pond and succulent garden.

Lovely park. A pity the staff allow exercise patrons to pack large stones on the machines and so deface the paintwork. We have written to the park warden. Of course there was no answer

We often go for a walk in this lovely serene safe environment
It’s a green Kung with sculptures all around. Even a lively poets section with bits of maybe long forgotten poetry

The nature reserve is in the centre of Stellenbosch and is a little gem! Great routes for running / walking. Play area for the kids. Dogs on leashes are allowed.

At first glance, the Jan Marais Nature Reserve does not look anything special. You will be pleasantly surprised as it is small enough to walk through in a couple of hours. There are notices explaining the plants in front of you and how they fit into the landscape and what roles they play including the birds they attract and what roles those birds play in our eco system. The fynbos and renosterbos that you see is all over the south eastern cape and all this information will stand you in good stead as you travel further afield

Although is not very big it is perfect for a morning or evening stroll/run. It has toilet facilities that are clean. There is an outdoor gym and an eco centre.
it offers beautiful views of the surrounding mountains and a great variety of flowers (most impressive in spring). It used to have a pond, however, now it is dry (waiting for the winter rains).
You can have surprises as finding big turtoises or guinea falls chaising each other.

Very pretty, well-kept reserve within walking distance of the university and dorp street. You will get stunning views of the Pieke and Jonkershoek valley whilst feeling lost amongst the fynbos. Lots of local runners enjoy this park in the afternoons.

We had our annual photoshoot in the Jan Marais Nature Reserve. We had an amazing time with the photographer and again later on when we had a picnic with the little ones. The reserve is very well kept and the bathrooms were tidy! Overall, we had a fantastic time!!
