We booked Clayton to take us on a private wine tour around Stellenbosch and surrounds. Clayton curated the entire day and at each of the 5 different wineries he had pre-arranged different extras, such as private cellar tours, cheese and wine matching, platters of food to match the wines. Clayton has a very friendly, accommodating and professional manner. W have not had better and we will use African King Tours next time we are in South Africa.

We were staying in Stellenbosch for several days, on one of them we asked our guest house to organise driver as my husband wanted to see wineyards he visited before. This was how we got to know Calyton. We spent whole day driving trough different wineyards, he supported us with detail planning, adviced where to go first, where to have lunch, booked the lunch, adviced us what to taste. During the whole day he was very open to talk and discuss a lot of topics about life in South Africa. It gave us a lot of cultural and local background which made our experience special.

Professional, fun and safe – a summary of our time with Mr. King!
We first encountered African King Tours when we ordered transport through our accommodation. We were met at the airport after our late arrival, and the transport was fast, safe, and flexible. When planning our coming tours, we decided to ask for his services to take a tour to Cape Point, Builders Beach, Chapmans Peak. The tour was tailored to our needs, a good and flexible amount of time at each location, and also, a nice and cool drive to our next accommodation.
We loved the tour so much that we asked for another one – this one into two townships near Stellenbosch. The tour was excellently planned, we felt safe and secure all the time with Clayton and the local guide that he had arranged for us. Finally, we also used his services when going to the airport for our departure back home to Finland. The pricing for all the services was affordable and very good value for the money.
If you are looking for a driver / tour guide that not only provides excellent, safe, clean, and air-conditioned rides, but also is very knowledgeable about South African history and the Stellenbosch area, Clayton is a perfect match for you! We could not have asked for a better company on our tours, and we highly recommend African King Tours!

I recently had an amazing experience with this wine tour guide. The selection of wines was excellent, featuring high-quality options from small, intimate venues. The guide’s wine knowledge was impressive, providing insightful information about each wine. The tour struck the perfect balance between exploring South African culture and enjoying wine tastings. Highly recommend for wine lovers and cultural explorers alike!

After picking us up from our first transfer with Clayton to Stellenbosch, he managed to tell us so much information about the area during our 3.5h drive. He was also our transfer from Stellenbosch to the airport, and we liked the guy already! While we were in Stellenbosch, we cancelled our already-planned wine tour to get a private half-day wine tour from Clayton. He took us to three lovely vineyards. As he said himself, he prefers the vineyards that are a little smaller, so it is more quiet and they have a little more character. The tour was amazing, we had a wine+cheese platter at the first stop, a wine+chocolate platter at the second stop and ended with a (very large!) charcuterie platter + wine tasting at the final stop. We preferred the white wines, so this was mentioned at the last stop and we received a tasting of their white wines. As a trip down memory lane, Clayton also took us for a quick visit to a vineyard we visited 25 years ago, as a bonus! Props to Clayton, props to how much he knows and can tell us and props to how well he organized the whole trip!

We thoroughly enjoyed our days tour to some of the local vineyards with Clayton. He came highly recommended and did not disappoint. As well as sharing his knowledge on the history and culture of South Africa we also were given a real sense of what it is to be South African today.
He took the time to find out what tastes in wine we had so that the wine tasting was geared to our needs. He has a really good knowledge of wines and challenged us to use all our senses to assess the wines. Each of the 4 vineyards was different but all had something very special to offer. He listened to our feedback on the last vineyard we visited which had the most incredible view but was otherwise disappointing. It is obvious that he wants his guests to have the best experience possible. Our platter lunch was beautifully presented and delicious.

We visited Stellenbosch in late March 2024. Our experiences included wine farms and the celebration of my 60th birthday.
We hired Clayton King to drive us to the many wine farms we had selected for tastings, and he was very open to us making reservations directly and choosing wine estates that were not all among the typical ones tourists would likely choose. Because of our reservations and the experiences we selected at the estates, some of our travels required that we double back on the same roads already traveled - Clayton was accommodating and made great suggestions on how to accomplish all we had chosen.
Clayton was available at all times; he would collect us in the morning, drive us through the beautiful countryside to our destinations, and would wait for us while we enjoyed our tastings/lunches/dinners. He would deliver us to guest house we were staying at.
We had many delightful conversations and appreciated his perspectives, and him sharing stories of his family with us. He has wonderful knowledge of the area, including its history and the many wine farms.
We truly appreciated Clayton's professionalism, experience, resourcefulness and being available at all times during our three day stay.
You will be well taken care of if you hire African King Tours to be your guides.

We have just come back from a brilliant trip to South Africa. This is the second time I have used African King Tours and Clayton does not disappoint. We asked Clayton to pick us up from the Airport which went very smoothly.
A few days later Clayton took us on a private full day wine tour around 5 vineyards in the Stellenbosch area.
The tour was a highlight for us.
We visited Lanzerac where we had a very interesting cellar tour.
We also visited Rustenberg, Muratie, Warwick and L'avenir for a superb Cheese and Meat Platter.
Clayton was keen to make our day the best possible experience. and we tasted some excellent wines.
A few days later Clayton took us on a private full day wine tour around 5 vineyards in the Stellenbosch area.
The tour was a highlight for us.

Second tour with AKT and it delivered and in many cases surpassed expectations. A growing business,Clayton was not able to guide us this time but Dan was superb; exceptionally knowledgeable with a friendly manner and growing love of cricket.. ;-) Highly recommend

In mid-April 24 we had the pleasure of spending a very enjoyable and informative day with Clayton from African King Tours at a wine tasting in Stellenbosch. He took us to various vineyards, told us a lot about Stellenbosch and its surroundings, but also about South Africa in general, its culture, history etc.. It was very exciting to talk to him, his bus was very clean, he drove carefully and was punctual. We felt very comfortable in his company and can warmly recommend Africa King Tours.
