Beautiful grounds, golf course, and hotel.
Staff very friendly inside and out.
Restaurant had the most excellent sushi!
Felt 100 percent safe.
They are cashless.
Definitely worth visiting.

Stated as part of a tour. This was NY far the best accommodation we stayed in. The rooms were simply fabulous with so many thoughtful touches added. Really couldn't find fault with anything.

Manager was wonderful, so accommodating and approachable.

All the staff we saw were great but Lesly on reception deserves a particular mention. She really is a credit to the hotel

We stayed at Pearl Valley , renting a Cedar Lodge village ; there were six of us / three couples. The property was very good. Well laid out , lots of room, bathrooms en suite, well located for golf course and clubhouse with great views over a pond ( bird life in abundance!) Only downsides were the constant load shedding ( power cuts) and minimal cutlery ; I know there were six of us but surely you could do more than six glasses , cups etc.
The golf course ( although expensive even by European standards ) was excellent : layout, condition, staff .. indeed everything was really topnotch. And what a magnificent setting.

However , the three star ratings are down to two issues.
The security protocols. One appreciates that this is Africa and crime is up there but when you have a system that means you have to have your driving license scanned every time you entered the facility and then allocated a security number which had to be renewed on every entry and exit was just a pain. The system didn’t always work leaving you stranded a gate with others hooting from behind.doesn’t. Ironically SA law forbids you to scan and store personal details but Pearl still do it. On saying this the guards were nice and friendly but it was all so slow. Further more some third of the time the code system never worked so the guards just waved you through anyway.

The key issue with Pearl Valley ( and it seems to resonate with many of the reviewers ) is the Clubhouse poor service. Sure all the staff seem to be friendly enough and have a smile on their faces but this just covers up an untrained and uncaring attitude to service. For example four of us went for dinner at 7pm on a Friday night. We had to dig out our own menus. None of our wait staff told us about any specials. The first drinks took 15 minutes to arrive. We ordered four main courses and eventually got served at 8.30pm. However, one of the dishes had to be returned so one of our party didn’t get served until 8.45pm, some 100 minutes after sitting down. The place wasn’t even busy.
We finally paid our bill but as we were leaving our waitress cornered one of our party and boldly asked why we hadn’t left a gratuity. I relayed our issues to her and to be fair she apologised . However, because it’s Africa I gave in and left her a gratuity but they didn’t deserve it nor should we have been shamed into leaving one. It left a bitter taste with us.

Service, service service. Don’t shrug your shoulders and say “Hey, this is Africa” especially when you’re charging first world prices. Training ….get this right and you’ve got a 5 star, Golden Bear facility worthy of any where in the world.

My wife and I just loved this golf course , which our travel agent booked for us while we were in the area. It’s a beautiful design, was in great condition, has a challenging layout and is very scenic. The Pro shop staff, caddy master, starter plus halfway house staff were friendly and extremely welcoming and helpful. Sadly the bar staff did not match them - they were slow, disinterested and looked bored. On the first tee the starter informed us that the South African couple we’d been paired with didn’t want to play with us so he let them go off alone rather than keeping to the schedule so that we didn’t have four or more awkward hours. That was kind of him and it was appreciated and we didn’t mind playing as a couple. However it’s a shame there was no Marshall to ensure pace of play. The woman often hit the ball no more than 40 or 50 yards …but she waited for the group in front to leave the green before playing her second shot, even on par 5s! So with 300 to 400 yards to the green and incapable of hitting any more than a maximum of 100 yards she waited every time. It was ridiculous and the only thing that spoiled our enjoyment of the course as we stood and waited to play our shots. At least we were able to use the time to repair the large number of huge divots that someone ahead of us was creating all the way round and then leaving unrepaired. Definitely a course I would play again but reviews posted here mean I would only play as a visitor, I would not want to stay or eat there.

What a disappointing experience. Having stayed in luxury resorts around the world, I expected Pearl Valley to live up to their reputation. We booked a 5 night stay at the hotel and 3 rounds of golf, we got the most average arrival being told to park our car where we could and bring your luggage to the lounge, okay fine this is not the end of world, but wait. We played our golf and had excellent service on the course. Mostly because we only dealt with 1 person. The rest of week we were chased off the driving range by a rude ‘coach’ even though we had 3 games booked and played the day before and were playing the next day. Apparently you cannot use the range when you don’t have a tee off!? Weird when you would want to practice for your round the next morning and there is no one on the range? We were not greeted by a single staff member and completely ignored at the main restaurant. Eventually a lovely gentleman named Prince came to the rescue and turned out evening around. It didn’t last long when the next day trying to buy a coke and sandwich proved to be the equivalent of solving a rubics cube blindfolded. The staff has no clue what is happening between the 3 restaurants? They take your orders and only at the end when you embarrassingly take out cash, they tell you don’t accept it. The golf carts driving between the hotel and the main area ignored us to pick up staff members. We waited 45 minutes for breakfast (avo on toast) before our second tee off, after that round we ordered drinks and a waitress brought us a round we did not order and then proceeded to argue with me that I did order it, this is the same waitress that told me if I order food and want to pay Cash I should have the exact amount, because of course I learn all menu prices and carry the exact the change wherever I go. Needless to say I took the round because hopefully it would make the day go by faster. Staying at a hotel for 5 nights and not being allowed an access code the entire time. Signing in and out you feel like a stranger, when you have booked to be a guest. At the same time it depends who’s at the gate... so much for security. I could write for days, but if you want a pretentious filled estate with staff that don’t know what time the restaurant closes or anything else that happens in this “estate” then by all means come and sip on the wrong drink on a veranda that no one is sure what time it closes.
Not one manager seen my entire stay. Where are you? Your staff is under trained and rude! Wake up and learn about the hospitality industry.

Day started with mediocor breakfast with 5/10 service - our food went to 3 other tables before it ended up on our table.

Driving range - Found the staff very grumpy and without even saying good morning I was told i can only hit 1 pyramid of balls.

Very disappointing experience, After 18 holes of golf (2 x 4 balls + extra carts for guests - do the maths) we couldn't even get a bottle of wine at 17:30pm on a Sunday.

My overseas guests we very disappointed.
