Wow, this nature reserve has the best hikes ever, the views from above are spectacular, easily accessible, well marked and lots to see and do. I hope to be back soon to complete the rest of the hikes. Abolution facilities were excellent.

Clean, safe, picturesque, relaxing. Take the time to stop at the many clean and well maintained benches and take in the amazing views.

Mesmerizing
Aug 2020
There are several hiking trails available at the Fernkloof Nature Reserve with the route to the Assegaaibos waterfall being the most popular and arguably the most beautiful. The route is fairly easy and as the vegetation changes from small fynbos to being surrounded by the forest. At the waterfall you just can't help but be mesmerized by the natural beauty. After reaching the waterfall, which was in full force after the recent rains, we decided to take the Lemoenkop route which gave us a great view of Hermanus. Overall the paths were very well maintained and vary in difficulty. If you are a nature lover and find yourself in Hermanus, this reserve is a must visit!

Must do in Hermanus
Sep 2020 • Couples
We walked for 2 and a half hours and did not cover half of the area.
The vegetation is unbelievable and the views as good as it gets.
There is save parking, tiolets and no entrance fee.
The routes are well marked and differ in the degree of difficulty.
This is nature at its best.

Natural beauty

After all the shops and restaurants this is an absolutely wonderful bit of nature - best of all, its free!
Many hiking options for various fitness levels.
For an easy stroll, take the klipspringer path...until it disappears! It’s a lovely contour walk around the hill with views of both mountains and sea. Paths are a bit rocky, but better than many “trails” we’ve been on.
Protea and vynbos heaven. Pop into the plant house at the top parking to see samples and names.
Easy to find - head East on Main Road, turn left into Fir Ave and the road end in the parking lot.

A choice of many paths to walk - all maintained well by volunteers - who we met including a group of happy hikers. Best was the plants are placed in bottles with their names at one entry point.

Nice walk in the hills
Feb 2020
If you care for nice walks in the fynbos, beautiful Erika and Protea in the season, this a great place to be. For a small donation you will get a handy map with the local trails. From the top of one trail you overlook Hermanus, the Atlantic and the golf course.

Hidden Gem!
Feb 2020 • Couples
We've stayed in Hermanus for the last 3years and nevered ventured here before. It took an overcast day to drive up to the Visitors Centre..... No charge unlike most nature parks in South Africa....and went on great 1hr 40 walk on the well maintained trails...good shoes recommended. Views of Walker Bay are fabulous with several route options. Most folks there seemed to be locals doing fitness treks! February not best time to visit for fauna but still excellent morning out

Stunning in every season
Jan 2020
Easy walks, for grandparents to grandchildren, as well as more challenging hikes, if you wish to go up all the way to Galpin Hut, or, even more ambitiously, Aasvoelkop. Breathtaking views, shady resting places, fascinating flora; what more can one wish for? Well: variety in every season. Spring brings the proteas in full bloom, as well as the fireflies in the evening. Clear winter days bring vistas: take your binoculars along and watch the whales in the bay below. A wholly underestimated place, that is never crowded.
