Great hosts who went an extra mile to make sure we saw whales @ almost touching distance :-). There is a small introduction prior to getting on the boat explaining how to be safe on the boat as well as how to identify Southern right whales and a little about their migration pattern as well... At around 900 Rands per... More

The boat trip was wonderful. But we did not see one whale. Only one dolphin and one seal. The boatcompany keeps it as a hidden secret that the whales are already gone. Something al Hermanus inhabitants can tell you. But they don't want miss the many clients want to keep the high price for the tour! We had a lot... More

We knew at the outset that it was unlikely that we would see any whales as reports had already gone round that they left the area early this year. The cruise guide stated as much at the beginning and gave us a discount. In compensation we came across a lovely pod of dolphins and some seals. The guide and crew... More

Booked at Whale watchers and entered the building for a briefing which was interesting. The boat was modern and clean with excellent staff who made you very welcome. A 20 minute boat ride led us to a mother and baby whale. We had to keep our distance but were told that if the whale came to us it was ok... More

Just visited Hermanus and Gansbaai for three days. We have been here 3 times before at the same time of year and always seen dozens of whales. This year however we have seen not a single one. Quite disappointing. The coastal walks and beaches are splendid of course and weather has been great so shouldn't complain, but whales were the... More

A complete waste of time and not recommended. You stand on a headland, straining your eyes scanning the horizon for glimpses of whales. Even if you are lucky enough to see a fin or a snout from 200 metres it is still a "much ado about nothing". There is an official watcher who blows his horn at the first sight... More

Reading the reviews on here it's clear that many people have had a similar experience to us. The boat packs everyone in upstairs and downstairs and when there are no whales to see - apparently a common experience at this time of year - it's essentially a 'sardine packed in' tour of the bay. Added to this as the weather... More

A very bad experience. I appreciate it wasn't their fault that there were NO whales at all, in peak season, October 27th, but the boat and the crew did nothing to help the enjoyment. No commentary, in fact NOT A WORD from anyone for the duration, beyond the safety talk. This company does not understand the importance of communication. And... More

Sadly we saw no whales. We cruised in boat for 1 hour and 30 minutes and returned to shore without having seen whales. When asked if there were any accommodations that could be made we received a rude and curt response that its a 50/50 chance. This was never explained to us.There should be some concession, like 50% off another... More

Prior to the trip passenger were given realistic expectations as dictated by the permit conditions. It was explained that the whale season is drawing to an end and the possibility of no sightings are 50/50. Passengers are given the choice before the trip to not go. Due to the fact that we make more effort to drive longer and further... More
