We made a last minute decision to go to Hermanus, so contacted WBA via the WhatsApp number on their website the evening before we wanted to go sea kayaking - amazingly enough they responded within an hour and confirmed they could accommodate us the next morning.
We embarked on our kayak adventure the following morning with 4 others (2 per kayak) lead by Rhian.
Rhian was a great guide, really knowledgeable & experienced. We saw some seals, penguins & a bryde whale, and then had the opportunity to go for a swim while out sitting in the water.
Overall would highly recommend - We really appreciated how quick they responded & could communicate via WhatsApp!

We had a stunning 90-minute your of the coastline towards the New Harbour in Hermanus. Our guide, Riaan, was super, explaining local wildlife and flora with evident expertise. The kayaking itself built up a healthy sweat but wasn't arduous - an excellent way to start the day.

Great session of sea kayaking with Bjorn, we were able to see whales from up close and a seal also came playing around our kayaks. Access is really easy and staff are very nice and knowledgeable. Our guide Bjorn also gave many interesting facts about marine life and the landscape of Hermanus.

Herman and Bjorn were amazing. Easy to contact and very helpful. Bjorn was a great guide full of interesting facts regarding the surrounding marine life. Two whales came very close to our kayak. A trip to remember and worth every penny!

I cannot recommend this fantastic experience enough ! Spotting whales, penguins and seals on a kayak beats a boat experience any day. You can smell, hear and feel the sea. Bjorn and Herman welcomed me warmly and I quickly made friends. As a solo guest, it was great to share this adventure with others. We were very lucky to have a whale come right up to our kayak. Wowzers !! Once in a lifetime... And I got some exercise which made the beer at Gecko even more delicious after !! Don't worry about whether you can row or not. Bjorn guides you and each kayak has 2 people. By far, I am convinced that this is the best activity in Hermanus and surrounds. Step out of your comfort zone and grab a paddle, get out on the ocean, make friends and have a story to tell. My husband goes kayaking with these guys regularly and he loves it so much. You won't be sorry.

We had a great time and it was easy to book at a fairly late notice. Bjorn gave out a ton of information and pointed out where seals playing. Morgan, who was helping, was also fun and was fun to chat with. Highly recommend spending a couple of hours with these guys. We didn’t see too much wildlife but it was nice to be out in the water.

Fantastic experience. The team were very friendly and professional. Booking was easy and the actual outing was fantastic. Led by a knowledgeable and friendly guide who made the experience fun. Great whale sighting and good exercise. Fully recommend.

Enjoyed the sea kayaking tour with Bjorn who had great knowledge of the sea and Walker Bay. Booking experience & extra support from Herman was also excellent. Highly recommend tour company

Always a favorite activity, even if you see no sea life. We were lucky on Saturday morning as the bay was alive with activity. As soon as we left the harbour we were surrounded by a seal colony happily hunting, and of course all the birds were joining in on the festivities.

When I planned my trip to Hermanus a couple of months back, shark cage diving and whale watching were the 2 must do things on my list. It is on this context that I contacted Walkerbay.
The reason, ofcourse were the wonderful reviews that I read on Tripadvisor. I emailed to walkerbay and sent my dates and queries. Within 48 hours I got a detailed response with timings, costs, inclusions etc. That spoke a lot about the responsiveness and customer care that walkerbay provides.
If you are keen on Whale watching and Shark Cage Diving; they can organize both the activities for you and schedule to fit the same in a single day, whether permitting ofcourse!
The The shark cage diving takes place early in the morning with a 7h30am meeting time in Kleinbaai, 45km from Hermanus. Walkerbay can arrange a pick up and drop back from your hotel also. The activity finishes at midday. The whale watching can be done at 3pm in the afternoon and will finish at around 5pm.
If you want to schedule both activities on 2 separate days then you can go for the shark diving on day 1 morning and whale watching on day2 morning.
I was slated to take up both the activities in the last week of September in a single day. The Shark Cage diving got cancelled unfortunately because of the choppy sea. I wish i could have experienced it. However the whale watching tour was amazing.
I was picked up in a SUV at around 8:30 a.m. from my hotel by Ash and taken to the pre-designated place. The drive to the bay was not more than 15 minutes and I was given a lot of detail on the whale watching experience on way. Ash was very interactive and informative.
Post reaching one needs to pay at the counter, sign an indemnity and collect a pass. Then I waited for the briefing with may others. After a bit of a wait, we were told about whales, their behaviour, size, weight etc. Post the detailed briefing session we hopped to the boat and off we went for a super experience.
We sailed for about half and hour before we had our first encounter. It was amazing!!! During our trip we went on to see many whales. The great part is, no matter which part of the boat you are in the crew makes sure that everyone gets a view. The boat is rotated so people on all sides can get views. The tour lasts about 2 hours and if you are lucky and visiting in season can spot as many as 8/10 whales. We did!!!
While on boat you are offered a bottle of water, some cold drink and a packet of chips. A lot of people were sea-sick and the crew was so very attentive and prompt in providing people with sick bags and water. All in all this is an experience of a lifetime and one should not miss it!!!

There are still more or less 6 Southern Right Whales in the Bay, but it is highly unlikely that they will still be here in a week's time. This is far later than they usually stay and it has been an amazing season for whale viewing.
Unfortunately we will not offer whale watching at that time any longer. You could go out on a Bay Cruise on a catamaran daily, or else you could go kayaking from Hermanus Old Harbour.
