About
If you are looking for a unique experience you should certainly include Romantiques in your itinerary. You will find the extensive array of antiques and memorabilia fascinating and all are displayed in a picturesque setting in an old property in the heart of the town. If you are looking for militaria, vintage toys, china and silverware, vintage clothing and everything in between, you won’t be disappointed. Children will be fascinated by the various items, many of which they will only have read about. There is plenty of on-site parking and card facilities are available if you find something you simply must have. Set aside a couple of hours to enjoy the setting and indulge in a cup of coffee or play the vintage pin ball machines.

We stumbled upon this shop on our visit to Hermanus, and it turned out to be the highlight of our trip. Its like stepping into the past, with rooms dedicated to various themes such a military memorabilia, victorian clothing, vintage toys and tea sets and so much more. We ended up spending nearly two hours there, finishing up with a few games of old fashioned pin ball machine which was such fun. Do yourself a favour, stop by for a visit when you are in the area, you won't be dissapointed.

Nestled somewhere in the heart of Hermanus but not too difficult to find with Google Maps, you will find Romantiques. With the premise of a memorabilia store, this place takes you back to yesteryear. I could not stop commenting about how this place should be made into a museum and not a store but kept checking myself by saying that if it was just a museum, then I would not be coming away with some really cool, and very reasonably priced finds. This store has everything to remind you of a time gone by and covers every facet of life. The only downside was that they do not accept credit cards, which is a bane for them, as it meant that I could not spend a large amount of money there.

This is another one of Hermanus's unique shops! Fortunately, I am not a collector, but I can well believe that this would be the first port of call for most collectors. The store is almost like a museum, a quirky one... and I just love the sense of fun in the naming of the sections... " Rusticana" being my favourite! There is a mini bioscope, a 20 seater, I believe, which shows old films. Booking is essential, it is so popular!

The store opens to the back and much larger than when viewed just driving past.
The selections are very wide and there's something for everyone's interest.
There's also a large antique toy section, an army section, some jewellery and even solid silver pieces.
I got stuck on the largest selection of quality WW2 books and walked out with good reading for a long time to come.
Prices though are high, and reflective of having wide choices.
There's also a retro theatre with children's movies on the older projector many afternoons that I will definitely return for.
Well recommended for the antique lover.

This shop and yard has everything for the nostalgic visitor to the serious collector from the Victorian era to classic pop days. The myriad of packed displays in a labyrinthine maze of rooms and outbuildings enables one to delve into the past and acquire momentoes of bygone seasons ranging from comics, vinyl records, old signs, biscuit tins and Dinky toys to bone china, thimbles, coins, war memorabilia, a few old clothes, musical and scientific instruments, silverware, old jewellery, postcards, ecquestrian items etc etc! The variety is amazing. Every Saturday, in their "real olde worlde feel" cinema, they show old classic movies and then again in the week during the holidays. If you cannot find something worth buying here, then I am not sure where you will obtain it. Possibly one of the best antique and classic shops in the western Cape. Note - all purchases are on a CASH basis.

For something old - different - a collectible - they will probably have it. You can get lost going from room to room. You will find something from your past there and will leave with rekindled memories if nothing else.

This shop is amazing and houses an amazingly varied and interesting collection of collectables. My family and I visit every year at least once and every year we spend hours browsing through room after room of interesting items.
It has interesting items for all ages from 3 to 100 - even my teenage son perked up and looked interested.
If in Hermanus, do not miss this shop - it's an absolute must. It's probably the only shop that gets me excited about browsing.

You need time when visiting Romantiques, hard to explain and to take in all that you see. There are rooms full of collectables and memories of your childhood as time has passed us by. Just when you think you have seen it all there is more they have a military room outside. The collection is jaw dropping. From the outside you would never expect to find what is inside even an old cinema with seating and ticket sales cubicle just simply amazing.
