There are some tremendous opportunities and some great opportunities to take some fantastic scenic photographs right along this route. If you are ever in the area you must try to visit.

Hermanus all in all is a fantastic place to visit with loads of options for accommodation to suit every pocket and the same with restaurants. It is definitely THE whale watching capital

We stayed in Gansbaai to do a shark cage dive from Stilbaai. The walk along the beach fronting Walker Bay through to Gansbaai harbour is absolutely stunning. This is not a casual walk and does take some fitness to do.

After a mildly disappointing couple of days in Hermanus we took the Cape Whale Coast road back to Cape Town. What an absolutely fabulous route! The views were stunning at every turn.
Luckily the planners have anticipated the interest in the views and there are stopping places literally every kilometre or so along the most picturesque parts of the route.
It’s work hiring a car just to drive this road!

Hermanus should have been one of the high spots of our trip to South Africa. The Cape Whale Coast is very pretty; we had a long drive to get here but did not see a single whale, only hyraxes scrambling over the rocks. Very disappointing.

Hermanus; the Place to be in the whaleseason. We saw a lot of them. I stayed at the Windsor hotel. We could see the whales from our balkony. Pictures are taken while we were on a boat trip. I have only one wish: to see this wonderfull creatures again!!!

Driving along the R44 from Hermanus to Gordon's Bay is stunning: beautiful sandstone rock cliffs along a hair-raising twisty road.

If you are going to travel this far, it would be madness not to try and see a whale or two splashing about off shore. Do it.
