It depends when you are in George. I am sure if one goes there in spring, it must be fabulous. In the height of summer, not a lot of blooming. But it is a nice, quiet walk. Afterwards in the cafeteria a phantastic avo sandwich and a pretty good coffee for no money. Nice!

Thanks to the review from Tammy P, we went to the Gardens and were pleasantly surprised. It was so lovely to walk around and see all the plants, especially the water lillies. We managed to get into the cafe and have a cup of tea and a bubblegum milkshake for my Grandson. The downside, was a little neglected in places.

Being out of townies we decided to take a little tour of George & happened to come across the Garden Route Botanical Gardens & we have to say that it really was a lovely find.
We were greeted by two gents who worked there & we were then suggested to take a walk along the Mushroom Meander, which really was pleasant.
The views were amazing and so were the huge puppers that we met on our way out!
Considering that entrance is less than a loaf of bread, the Botanical Gardens really is a great place to rough around with your pups or even have a little Alice in Wonderland picnic.
The natural beauty of the garden is all that you can really ask for.
* One tip though, if you have not been before, ask for a map, makes it quite fun if you have kiddies with you as well!

The location is quite central and there are many good venue to stay at in close proximity.
There is a entrance fee of R15
The set up is beautiful but it looks like it needs abit more care and maintenance.
Lovely variety of plant life
Very relaxed and serene environment
Ample parking available

Tucked away in the centre of George and at the foot of the "George peak" 1569m and part of the Outeniqua mountains is the George Botanical gardens. A very pleasant place to walk in the middle of a city but in comparison with other "Botanical gardens" it needs a lot of work. Sad to see that the lovely bird hide overlooks a dam choked with rushes .The toilet facilities in the park are nice and clean and it has a wonderful little.
restaurant "Getafix" situate alongside the little plant nursery .
Would highly recommend you go for the scenery then stop off for a light meal. Wonderful place to take the little ones for a walk. (pushchair friendly)

A nice break from the town, easy to reach and an easy walk around.A bonus is the nursery selling indigenous plants at competitive prices, so if you have seen something in the gardens that has taken your fancy, it will be tempting you in the nursery!

The Gardens are situated at the top of leafy Caledon Street, just under the Outeniqua Mountains. We felt very safe and secure. There is a Park Run every Saturday morning which we also enjoyed. Well worth the visit whether for a leisurely stroll or simply to relax. Excellent photography opportunities as well.

It's Sunday afternoon and everyone is bored...
Grab a blanket, some snacks and the kids. It's picnic time at the Botanical Gardens.
Don't expect Kirstenbosch, but it's still a great way to get everyone out of the house.

Georgians are very lucky to have these beautiful well kept botanical gardens on their doorstep. The park has been made safe and the active, volunteers and management organise live music concerts to fund the gardens upkeep. The stunning mountain backdrop makes it an idyllic setting. It's a great place for walks, picnics and walking your dog. The park run starts here at 8am on Saturday mornings and is one of the best, and most scenic park runs in the country. Get there!

I just love going to the Botanical Gardens, go there almost every Saturday with the Park Run and take my dog for the 5 km. it has breath taking views of the mountain and forest and you learn a lot from the plants in the gardens as well.
