A fabulous family day out for the young and the not so young
We loved the day out at the transport museum. From 4years old to 77years old there was something for everyone! My kids loved playing on the trains, and my parents loved their trip down memory lane with the cars and trains. The best part is it’s all free! We also took the train up the Outeniqua pass, which we all loved (although that you pay for). A brilliantly day out, highly recommended

Time Capsule of trains - Loved it!
The idea of it is great! Sad to witness that there will be a generation that cannot enjoy the trains as we did growing up. My Husband grew up spending vacations visiting the museum and he noticed how much has changed. Please take the time so that your kids can learn about the remarkable history of Transnet. This is so worth it and even better that it is free!

Great Family outing with the kids
We went with our family, including my almost 2 year old, grandparents, siblings and cousins aged 5 and 10. The weather wasn't great and this was the perfect activity with the kids when the rain hits the Gardern Route. My toddler absolutely loves trains, cars and vans. So he was completely mesmerized. Oh and it's free to enter! They only ask that you donate something at the end.

    Do not miss this museum
This was an excellent museum. Multiple steam loco's most of which were made in the UK including Garrets. Large display of classic cars- mainly European. Small aviation display with some interesting exhibits. All indoor exhibits are displayed in an old engine shed- which is huge. Lots of railway relevant ephemera. Of special interest for kids is the small diesel railcar that departs at 09:00 and 12:00 up into the Outeniqua mountains at very reasonable cost. Take a picnic! I would say if you are travelling the Garden Route and have an interest in railways or classic cars, or have kids to entertain and you are in the vicinity of George this is a 'do not miss' At the time of my visit entry was free.

What a great reflection of South African history . So well preserved. It amazing to show kids how the country functioned before corruption happened in South Africa.

The George Transport Museum, sadly a lack of a guide to share the history and stories about the different trains( for example the white train)locomotives, railway busses and other vehicles. As this is a historical site, a guide will be an asset and can keep visitors entertained while they are waiting for the power van trip up the mountain. The miniature trains exhihition should ve open and will surely entertsin children and parents. No kiosk to buy water or a coffee.

Well, would you believe it. Been wanting to visit this museum for years and the time we picked - load shedding!!!!!! Never the less, we went inside and tried to view the steam engines and cars and coaches as best we could. It is clearly a really good museum - if you are into old South African steam engines. Some real gems stored here. And the place looked clean and well kept - or so it seemed but with no lighting, hard to tell otherwise. The only downside is the staff who work there. Very disinterested and their attitude sucks!!!! When we asked where the toilets were, the lady just pointed - did not bother to move her butt to show us (it was dark after all) and was really rude. I will wait for power shedding to end before going back there - one needs lighting to enjoy the experience.
