Just spent an awesome evening with Lucy, Leigh and dinner guests. Food was stunning, thanks Emily. Gin, of course, was amazing as always. Each course served with a wonderful Leigh inspired drink. If in Cape Town you must call in here. Exceptional hosts. Highly recommended. Thank you guys.

My friends and I came to do our very first Gin tasting and we loved it. The scenery is very authentic and we absolutely loved the variations of Gin's on display. I would recommend to book in advance but, luckily we got a seating! Definitely a must!

Great gin tasting experience
Feb 2018 • Solo
Visited H on H on the weekend after landing in CT. Great value tasting (R150 for 4 gins) with expert guidance along the way. Highly recommend the Salt River Gin for R380 for a 750ml bottle.

Was here by myself however it would be excellent with a group of mates in the afternoon.

Saturday gin tasting
Nov 2017 • Couples
We visited for one of their weekly Saturday afternoon gin tasting sessions. We made a reservation, and you should too!

Excellent choice. Learned so much about the booming craft distillery wave that's hit Cape Town, and learned even more about the uniqueness of South African spirits due to the fynbos (i.e the local flora).

The staff helped us learn all about gin during the tasting, and we loved everything we had. The team there is really sweet, friendly, and knowledgeable. And the space itself is gorgeous. A great Saturday afternoon spent.

We also LOVED all of their products, and loved a few so much that we purchased several bottles and lugged them 9,000 miles in our checked baggage to give as gifts.

Highly recommend you visit when in Cape Town.

Gin tasting at Hope on Hopkins, Cape Town, South Africa
Nov 2017 • Solo
I have much respect for the owners / operators (a very cool couple) who must have had a very long day but retained the enthusiasm, humor and love for their craft to make a possibly routine event feel like an event hosted by close friends or family. After a brief over-view of distillery operations, we had four (4) carefully selected and paired (with garnish) gins that opened up palates and minds in double quick time. The distillery is well laid out, airy and building character nicely. GREAT place to visit and freely recommended

The distillery is super neat & the decor is simply beautiful! Our hostess was really spunky & this just made the Tasting even more enjoyable! The owners were around as well & willing to engage with us.

You WILL walk away with a bottle of something!

A delightful gin tasting - courtesy Sarina
Feb 2017
We were on our honeymoon and despite only being free on a day that they don't conduct gin tasting tours, Sarina from this wonderful artisanal gin distillery very kindly agreed to do a private tour for us. We were carefully explained the gin distillation process along with the botanicals and other ingredients that go into a fine gin before being served a few of their finest gins.

Sarina took great care as to the manner with which she served the drinks and explained the inspiration / purpose behind each bottle. For my wife, who is a huge gin fan and doesn't drink too much wine, this was a fantastic experience and something different to the normal wine tours that one comes across in South Africa. We actually ended up buying their gift pack with 3 gins of 200 ml each. I highly recommend this place - do write to them before to arrange a tour.

Truly exceptional! Highest quality gin in SA
Apr 2016 • Couples
We saw this gin on sale in KZN and decided to book a tasting at the distillery in Cape Town- and we're so glad we did. Tours are limited to 12 people, so you will get a personal and down-to-earth experience no matter what day you choose to go. I have tasted a decent amount of gin in the states, but nothing as smooth as the gins from HoH - the flavors were much more nuanced and interesting than just juniper and alcohol. We sampled three gins, plus another experimental gin, both neat and paired with a tonic and garnish(es). Each one was different--the London Dry was the smoothest I've ever tasted, and the Salt River was equally smooth with an intriguing blend of botanicals, some endemic to this region of SA. The Mediterranean was my favorite, a little more punchy (alcohol-wise) than the others, with fantastic flavor. Leigh and Lucy were lovely hosts and answered all of our (many!) questions throughout the tour and tasting. It is clear that they put a lot of thought into each detail of the distillery, and that has paid off in quality of their product. If I was a local, this would be the only place I would even think about buying my gin! Worth every rand, both the tasting and the gins themselves. If you enjoy gin, or even if you're not convinced that you enjoy gin, you will enjoy yourself here.

A thoughtful and refreshing break from the norm
Apr 2016 • Couples
After spending two days on the Stellenbosch wine route (and being rather underwhelmed by the quality of most of the wine) my wife and I were blown away by our experience at Leigh and Lucy's Hope on Hopkins. The setting, experience, and product were all very much on point. We really enjoy gin and have sampled a lot of what the market in the US has to offer and were pleasantly surprised to find all three of the Hope on Hopkins gins, as well as their vodka and experimental tequila, were exceptional and very interesting.

Leigh and Lucy go the extra mile in their creations. Whether it's using spring water from table mountain (as opposed to reverse osmosis), distilling their own vodka (a precursor to gin), carefully pairing each of their three unique gins with a tonic and garnish (in what they call the "perfect serve" g&t), or deciding to not filter after the final distillation to achieve a smoother, more flavorful gin, their devotion to quality, improvement, and creativity is apparent.

The gins were delightful, interesting, and unbelievably smooth and complex. The tour and tasting were very well done and totally intimate and personal. We were there for almost two hours talking and drinking with the owners and other guests. Unlike many of the wine tastings we have done there was no rush and no feeling that we were just another group to come through that day. There are only two advertised tours and tastings/week.

This was easily one of the most memorable experiences we have had during our three weeks in SA and I highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys quality products, an excellent cocktail, or good company in an intriguing environment. You will not be disappointed!
