We used Escape & Explore for our Capetown & Franschhoke excursions. Our guides, James & Chizzy, we’re not only knowledgeable and fun, they were able to pivot quickly when plans had to shift due to weather. They listened to the things the our family liked to do and were able to get us into wonderful places to eat. I cannot recommend them more highly!

We used Native Escapes for our agency to provide our itinerary and it is them who picked Escape and Explore as our guide throughout Cape Town. Our guide Josh, became a friend we will have for a lifetime. The first day we learned the history of Cape Town and he is the most knowledgeable person I have ever encountered in my life! He taught us history of the city, different flora and fauna of the area, the list goes on and on!!!! The second day we explored all the majesty Cape Town had to offer, including surf spots, penguins, hidden beaches, etc. The last day he took us on a wine tour, which he himself is knowledgable in wineries. I cannot say enough about Escape and Explore but also of Josh as a guide. We flew from the US to South Africa and they made our experience and money beyond our expectations!!! I would never use another company should we come back! We were so sad to leave the last day.

We experienced two separate tours with the Escape & Explore team in conjunction with Hills of Africa Travel in mid November 2019: 1st: Cape of Good Hope day tour with James & his team - oceans, mountains, penguins, sharks, & more - all presented in a manner that reminds you of how fragile the ecosystem & how we, as travelers, need to be aware! I love how knowledgeable & caring the guides are on the staff! 2nd Tour; Wine Country - again, we had a great team & they toured us around Franschhoek & the surrounding area. We visited the Boschendal Winery & the town of Franschhoek proper - again - everyone was very knowledgeable and we enjoyed the VIP treatment, courtesy of all of the great connections the guides have made.

I’ve never written a review, for anything or anyone, ever. If I find something I like the very last thing I’d do is publish it on the internet. Am I selfish? Yes. I value my finds and I don’t want to share them with anyone. And I especially do not want to share Chizzy with anyone, ever. I reluctantly write this review though, because he is a treasure and his success is way more important than my selfishness. So, without further ado… We started our 21 day journey in Cape Town, and after the first THREE days touring with Chizzy my wife said “I could go home right now and would have had the most amazing vacation of my life”. Yes, we are also dramatic, but it’s 100% true. “Three days with a tour guide, didn’t you get sick of him?” No! Not for a second. Chizzy is the ultimate…I don’t know, “guide” doesn’t seem fitting really. He is a guide, yes. He’s also a historian, navigator, ostrich whisperer, winery aficionado, photographer, driver, bodyguard, entertainer, birthday cake cutting, champagne bottle popping beast of a human and our lives are forever enriched because of him. Hungry? Chizzy has snacks. Not basic snacks, the best snacks (the bittong was the best we had our entire trip). Thirsty? He’s fully stocked, beer, wine, water, whatever you want. Sunrise hike? Not on the agenda, but no questions asked. Chizzy picked us up at an ungodly hour, had water/supplies/first aid kid and guided us up Lion’s Head in complete darkness. Wife becomes unhinged, develops a fear of heights and wants inch down the mountain on her arse? Chizzy can handle it all. Literally placed her feet in foot holds and made all of us feel very secure on terrain we hadn’t experienced before. I could go on (shopping, horseback riding, electric bikes, motorcycles, private chefs, five star everything) but I know we already sound like high maintenance stalkers and I think you get the point. He’s polite, kind, FUN, SAFE and an absolute pleasure to be around. WE LOVE CHIZZY!! If I can’t put him in my pocket and bring him home, do yourself a favor and explore SA with him. He’s truly one of a kind. TINA CHIZZY! (keep that joke between us). We miss you.
