Made a spur of the moment decision to get out on the water on a beautiful sunny afternoon when we were on our way to lunch at the waterfront. Had previously done a sunset catamaran tour which was nice, but rather cool. We chose a sailing tour this time on the Spirit of Victoria. The boat is older, but relatively well kept. There was a good bit of wind so the sailing was good, but was a bit more of an angle than I expected (approaching 45 degrees). I was happy to be on the downward side of the middle bench seat as I would have been unable to hold on if I had been on the high side. Thankfully I happened to have a jacket with me as there was pretty significant splashing. It was a fun adventure but I think I'll stick with the catamaran next time.

I've been on the Spirit many times since it began operating out of the V&A waterfront in 1991 - the year I arrived in CT. Its by far the best of the many excursion boat trips as (unlike the catamarans, or the "pirate galleon") - once outside the harbour they turn off the engines and do some real sailing, weather permitting of course..! Today, only a small group of Durban Indians and myself were aboard and, as the wind was good and strong, skipper Tim decided to impress (scare) us by heeling the boat over up to 45 deg, so that the lower side was virtually awash. When the boat turned around to return, we all had to change sides (recommended) and being an unfit older person I found it difficult (had to be assisted by a crew member) to climb back to the high side of the boat. I don't mind admitting I was hanging on for dear life, and there was so much spray that the beer they gave me ended up tasting very salty indeed..! But a great trip..! This was the 2pm sailing, which lasted about an hour.

Did the Sunset Champagne Cruise on the Spirit of Victoria a few weeks ago. Firstly I will start by complimenting the staff, they were all very helpful and thorough and friendly. Beautiful views of the city and Table Mountain when out in the bay, they have sufficient life jackets and blankets on board for when it gets chilly. My main gripe is with their misleading advertising. It's called a Sunset Champagne Cruise and I understand that they are probably using this as a generic term, but when you read the description of this particular package, it says .... Toast the end of another perfect day in paradise with a complimentary glass of champagne ...... What we were offered was not Champagne, and I could even forgive them (almost) if they offered us a lovely glass of local MCC, but what they offered as a glass of Champagne, was the most revolting, cheapest, nastiest sparkling wine they could lay their hands on. And because we did not want that, the complimentary drink was replaced by a beer that we had to pay for. Don't call it a glass of Champagne if you're not serving Champagne ... it's misleading. Not impressed.

My husband, young nephew and I went on this excursion in December. What a great experience. Great crew, who made it all so much fun and even better that we were able to properly sail. Great views to be seen, with fantastic photo opportunities. Great fun, especially for my young nephew, when the sails were up
