We booked to good out from Hout Bay in Cape Town having been recommended to Hooked on Fishing Africa by a friend. They didn’t let us down. Capt Sean and deck hand Andrew could not have been better!
After a two hour motor to the fishing grounds water temp in hout bay was 10c at the fishing grounds it was 19.5c. We almost immediately hooked into LongFin we landed 9 in the space of 3 to 4 hours oh what fun!
Then Sean suggested we head to the Canyons to try for some Yellow fin….. they didn’t disappoint! Over the next 3 hours we caught 3 beautiful Yellow Fin Tuna and lost two more. A long drive home was followed by beers in the Club! What an experience. We will return!!🏆🎉🥂

The crew that took us out were very experience and knowledgeable. It was a stunning day. We saw thousands of dolphins. They were swimming alongside our boats. This was a bonus as we weren’t expecting. We caught many yellow tails between 3-5kg. We also saw colony of seals, caught a glimpsed of the massive elephant seal. I highly recommend Hooked on Africa Fishing!

Wow! My first fishing experience in Africa was simply amazing. I have been fortunate to fish many places and can say the Hooked on Africa experience is one of the best anywhere. Knowledgeable, expert crew (Captain Sean and mate) tried several locations and techniques until he found where the giants were lurking. The crew led me through the battles ranging from 20 minutes to over two hours with an 80 kilo monster. It could not have been a more positive experience. Book your charter now and get ready for some world class fishing action! Five stars.

Watch out. This company charges R20 000 per day and then you cannot take the fish you catch (they give you only some of what you caught). They let you pay for the trip and then they make money from the fish you have caught.

Whoever this individual is He/she is clearly MISINFORMED we cut fish for ALL our clients at the end of the day for them to enjoy and i bet they never even fished with us??

Overall it was a great experience but a huge disappointment in terms of transparency from the owner, Sean. We payed almost R20 000 and bought this experience as a gift for my dad in law and two friends who are Capetonians. As much as they enjoyed the trip, they caught over 500kg of fish and walked away with a measly 2kg per person. No mention about these terms and conditions on the website or through the phone when we booked the trip. 25 fish were caught, and one would expect a reputable company to at least give each guy a good portion of the fish. Dad and the men crewed for the entire day so that Hooked on Africa can sell their catch. It sounds like a money making scheme and has left a sour taste.

Sorry for the late response BUT this is as far from the TRUTH as it gets in fact your Father and crew got 3 WHOLE TUNA not 2kgs so please get your facts straight and in fact were offered more BUT declined until a few days LATER.

Highly recommend this trip for the great skipper (Grant) and deckhand (Jared). Fish aside we all had a memorable experience, for the seabird life, seals swimming beside us, chasing the trawlers which gave us a chance to locate the tuna. Hospitality was good and we had the bonus of reeling in a 77kg Yellowfin! Sean was easy to comms with and very chilled. All in all an organised and safe trip with experienced crew who were determined to get a result for us on the day.

After sharing our bad experience dealing with Sean from Hooked on Africa, this is his “professional response”. Absolutely disgusted and shocked at how this person runs his business. Stay away and avoid this company as he apparently has enough customers. What an absolute rip off.

It would be nice if i new what was being spoken about BUT if my memory serves me correctly remembering i do 120 charters per year this discussion was about PRICE. Perhaps they questioned why i charge what i do and they can get it cheaper elsewhere in which case i probably said well then go and book their/// Having done this for 30 years i must have my ducks in a row??? in order for me to have survived this long and still going strong.

We had an absolutely fantastic days fishing with Sean and Grant of hooked on Africa Fishing charters. Their experience and knowledge helped us catch 30 fish including four yellow fin tuna and 26 long fin.
Sean and Grant are a great team their knowledge of where and how to fish was superb. We had a great laugh on board and had the fishing day of a lifetime.

This review would perhaps be more positive if we had caught the fish we were talked up to expect before we shelled out 1000 USD on a half day of inshore fishing. Kit on the boat was fine, if somewhat old and only included trolling gear and very light bream tackle. Offshore tuna fishing (at approximately twice the price) seems to be the main thrust of the business with the inshore action orientated more towards the casual tourist - which we were not. We actually spent only around 2 hours targeting the main species of yellowtail before the skipper gave up trolling and moved to an inshore mark for some bream and then a couple of hours pulling up lobsters - for both us and it seemed the rest of the fleet as it was the last day of the season.
Given the price, I expect the skipper to make a more sustained effort on the main species and to spend longer than the half day if we have not a single fish in the boat. Going for bream and lobster seemed to be the cop-out option of at least giving the customers something.
We did see some nice other wildlife (porpoises, seals, sunfish) and the skipper and mate were pleasant enough but its a results business and this was, frankly, not up to the mark.

We are sorry that on the day the fish were not biting. We make every effort possible into ensuring that we can offer our guests the best possible fishing experience. We want to catch fish as much as our guests do. We ensure that our equipment, years of experience, local knowledge and expertise put us in a position to offer our guests the very best possible chance at catching fish.
Unfortunately we cannot control if the fish will bite on any given day, each day is different which this is due to many factors beyond our control and mostly controlled by mother nature, tides and of course lady luck.
We do hope you can visit Cape Town and join us fishing again one day for a better experience.

Well what a great experience from the first contact with Sean from Hooked On Africa Fishing Charters and till the final celebration in the Alantic Boat Club Bar Hout Bay.
I had been looking on the internet doing some research on Yellow Fin Tuna Fishing for over a year and came across Hooked On Africa Fishing Charters . What stood out from the other Fishing Charters was the Quality of the fish in the pictures , the great reviews and experiences of fellow fisherman and non fisherman on trip advisor.
So I booked the boat for myself for March 19th 2019 , day arrived and was greeted by Grant the skipper for the day and deck hand Luke .
Was shown to the boat and welcomed aboard, wow what a boat plenty of space , very clean and tidy very well looked arfter not a thing out of place..
Grant explained the the day and we set out for a 40 mile steam to the fishing grounds pointing out various birds on the way . Breakfast and drinks served on the way to the fishing grounds.( food and drinks provided and available all day ).
Reached the fishing grounds and started to troll to where Grant wanted to be , one of the rods roared off and was handed the rod and reeled in a small Skip Jack Tuna and returned it to the sea , that’s when I noticed the Quality of the Tackle on Board well balanced Rods and Reels in top condition and well looked arfter and maintained .
We reached the area Grant wanted to fish and started baiting up with fish and one on to a single hook didn’t have long to wait as one of the rods roared off handed the rod into the butt pad and into my first Yellow Fin what a scrap been dreaming about this moment for years and it was finally here , Grant by my side giving me tips along the way as the fish made several runs for freedom eventually the fish was beaten and ready to come aboard . Fish on board safely and was handed another rod by Grant with a fish on this fish made several runs for freedom before finally being beaten and was safely on board and stowed into the boxes, what I also noticed how the boat was cleaned down arfter every fish landed and how the other boats kept in touch with each other about the fishing ,where the fish are also a great saftey feature looking out for each other by now we had several boats around us and the rods kept roaring off at one stage we had three fish on at the same time handed a rod again by Grant fish making several runs for freedom eventually beaten and fish safely aboard . Handed a rod straight away by Grant as one of the 3 fish hook up was still on and this was totally different to he first three fish I had landed it kept making run after run gaining line and taking line back , I was starting to feel the pain in me legs arms but encouraged by Grant we started to win some line back this was a big fish arfter an hour I was still fighting the fish slowly gaining line all the time now the fish came to the surface and was told by Grant where he wanted the fish came along side and expertly brought on board , I slumped in the seat totally knackered and buzzing on what I had just landed what a fish quick picture and stowed away safely looked at the time and it had taken me an hour and half to get on aboard the boat. Just settling down with a drink and sarnie talking to Grant saying a breather would be good when one of the rods roared off again this fish not as big but safely landed aboard .
WHAT a day five fish landed out of seven takes , Big thank you to Grant and Luke for a day I will never forget .
Two hour steam to port and for the weigh in of the big fish , quick picture of the four biggest on the boat and then to the scales 81.5 kilos what a fish more pictures taken and then to the bar to celebrate and meet up with Sean and fellow anglers from his fishing party.

Price is for entire boat. You can have 1 or max seating. Assume you could get 6-8 but Shawn (Sean?) can tell you max. Good luck!!!
