Located in the V&A waterfront, this is a great place to connect with South African artists and their work. NOTE: on the V&A map this is called the Red Shed Craft Workshop. While some of the stalls sell mass produced souvenirs, many sell one-of-a-kind items that make for excellent souvenirs of your visit to South Africa. The building is attached to the main mall, but off to the side toward the Dock Road area - it is easily found if you enter the V&A area from the Portswood Road Entrance. This building has something for everyone - clothes, wood carving, jewellery - even a radio station with a window that allows you to watch on-air broadcasts. If you are visiting the V&A Waterfront it is worth the small effort to find this building as there are items here that you will not easily find in the mall stores. The best part is that they are all together under one roof.

It's located pretty much next door to the Aquarium. Some really good places to buy some better quality and different souvenirs without the excessive price tags. While they do have the cheaper normal stuff, they have some really top shelf stuff, I haven't seen this trip, which I will be back to buy before I leave. Leather goods, jewellery, paintings and prints, carvings, to hand made quirky guitars. It has it all. And no pushy sellers.

The signage outside actually names this the "Watershed", and it closes at 6pm. There is a great variety of unusual crafts, jewelry and trinkets sold at the many stalls at this indoor market. We particularly recommend a shop named Siyakatala, the first shop, #A01 inside the Aquarium entrance, where we found the best quality for the price for nicely crafted African masks, wooden carved animals, and other items you can be proud to display or for gifts. We wish we had purchased more here.

We have been very disappointed with the Red Shed Craft Warehouse. We have found it simply too big and overwhelming - if feels like a trade show where there are just too many exhibitors packed into the space. One simply cannot take it all in and it became a very tiring experience. There is also way too much similar stuff. We also feel that it is generally very over priced even though the exchange rate is so much in favor of us tourists.

The old Red Shed shops have now been combined with the old Blue Shed shops into a new building at the V & A waterfront between the mall and the aquarium. It is called the Water Shed and is adjacent to one of the working dry-docks in the harbor. The stalls are new, well lit and easier to shop. It is a less pressured way to buy crafts than the outdoor market at Green Market Square. It has some shops that are a bit higher quality as well, including several really nice higher end jewelry shops.

I went in here looking for some cheap nicnacs for the kids at home. Everything was so expensive, more for collectors of art rather than the average tourist. Beautiful things though!

Centrally located very close by V& A Waterfront. This place has great little stalls where you can find something for everyone. It is a one stop shop for souvenirs for everyone back home. Lots of South African stuff like silver jewelry, African baskets and bowls, textiles etc.

We did a quick run through here when we were down at the waterfront. There were a lot of crafts and mementos to choose from. Interesting to see some unique items. We didn't purchase anything, as we were pretty much just killing time, but would be a good place to go if you need a souvenir!
